Hooters - a popular sports bar, closing after 8 years. Will be closing in 8 days time. Sad Landlord (Kibs family)wants his property back...

Simmers & Seasons in Sept and Nov 10- these 2 have been bought over by those folks from a neighbouring country who have been bringing over lots of $$$$

At the same time, many coffee houses have sprang up in CBD. And they are doing fairly good business.

The Nbi CBD bar/restaurant landscape is definitely changing.

I honestly think those coffee houses & restaurants springing up from the "neighbors" are money laundering fronts.
You operate a small restaurant and keep prices low to ensure patronage....meanwhile you deposit 5Milli to the bank per day and say its from the business. In truth....only maybe 200k is from the business. The rest is piracy cash.
Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

you are right birdman - an insider says a person like the proprietor of Hooters must have been receiving offers DAILY running into tens of millions for his property.
But even more significantly, she says of all the CBD properties so acquired in the recent past are not really making profits - except Cafe Pronto, making clear that the cafes are mere facades.

This neigbours are bringing inflationary effects to our economy. They started with real estate - messed that up really badly! Forex bureaus, transport, house hold goods & clothing, cafes etc. etc. Isn't time the government cracked the whip before it's too late? Don't mistake this for xenophobia. No one can compete with piracy money. That's why in the west they have very stringent rules on money laundering. They know the effects it can have on the economy. In Kenya on the other hand, the whole country might be literally sold to our neighbours - bei ya jioni - as people are busy politicking and strategizing for 2012. Absolutely Bure Kabisa!
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

So sad. This pirate money. The government is so ill equipped to deal with money laundering!
Anywho, time to find me another joint, full of damsels. Shhee...I wonder which!
