I read this somewhere a few months back:
"The engineer who designed the expansion of Mombasa Road from Nyayo Stadium to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport should be fired and deregistered by the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. Reason? Take a walk along the road and you will observe the following glaring design errors:
1) The acceleration and deceleration lanes at the Capital Centre were removed and converted into the third lane of the road. Motorists leaving these premises "jump" directly into the main road where vehicles are moving at an average 80kph to 100kph.
2) At the Kapiti Road junction (opposite Bellevue Cinema), the acceleration lane has been converted into a bus stage, complete with a passenger shelter.
3) A new bus stop has been built at the section opposite the old American embassy. It is wide enough and long enough to fit two buses. However, the passenger shelter was erected about three metres after the bus stage along the road! Thus waiting passengers have to walk on the outside lane of the road when boarding their bus.
4) The sections with acceleration and deceleration lanes have misleading road markings - long narrow dashes instead of short wide ones. Motorists get confused and think that these are normal additional lanes to the road.
So far I have seen at least three accidents where the vehicles overshot a deceleration lane (one at the Capital Centre U-Turn; another at the St James Hospital U-Turn; the third at the Panesar Centre U-Turn).
5) The paved foot paths are a welcome addition, but some of them are right next to the road... where cars are zooming at 100kph (between Ramco Court and the South C and South B flyover). In addition, some sections comprise misaligned, discontinuous segments."
AMEN
