Isiolo town is realy centrally placed to be a capital city .If proper planing is done the town can be the New Chicago. with oil about to be found this place in the near future will rival Nairobi in terms of oportunities.

Amen to that. Move the capital anywhere from Nairobi and that will suit me just fine. Tz have done it,Nigeria have done it,SA (Pretoria/J'burg),Malawi (Blantyre/Lilongwe) ??

This has been discussed for over a decade now.i think we're not willing to move gvt functions away from nairobi.luk at the average kenyan's thinking about where a new district hq should be...Everyone thinks it should be in the largest town. But good planning demands we separate commercial functions from administrative.the initial costs for such must be huge

@ Kadonye

Spot on. More like what Nigeria has with Lagos the Financial,Business Capital and Abuja thats the Administrative capital with most all govt HQ's.

Must say though that the Nigerians had passed that in 1973 only to see it come to pass somewhere around 1991.

All the same it would be gud to see multipurpose cities that would ease the requirement of services having to be disseminated from Nairobi.

I think a federal govt with only centralized core admin functions (defense,Finacial watchdog etc..) for all 'states' would work IF n ONLY IF we can get past our ethicity. Problem is You... read here as 'I' may not be prepared to make the sacrifice for the benefit of our second or third generation.

I think we should altogether get rid of the word Majimbo for what it has been associated with!

Now this is one right thinking Kenyan. Time and again,we say this at Dreamcities forum - Nairobi will NEVER recover! It doesn't really matter what roads, skyscrappers or whatever else we do,NBO is not waking up again - like Lagos before Abuja,it will remain overcrowded, real estate prices will be inflated to a point where no one can afford any more and evem office space will become a major issue with costs soaring by the day. This inspite of expanding to mlolongo!

Isiolo is central and it also opens up huge areas not previously developed. All that is needed is a second international airport and we are there! banks and other services will follow us there! Maji itatoka Mt.Kenya, stima iko, security needs to be tightened and land is in plenty.

Seriously, why do you think there is such a clash between the politicians in that region? They see the potential, and are fighting to control this 'city' Abuja was also wasteland,go there today and come back and report your findings here.

Yote yawezekana.

Did you insinuate that oil is about to be struck around or near Isiolo?
We can actually start talking from there.
That is as far as the pros go for Isiolo.
The flip side is that it is in such proximity to bandit country that one shudders.
The Al shababs aren't too far either.

@B.Timer;

If by 'bandit country' you mean Ethiopia, then you need to revise your geography. The boarder town of Moyale is 580km from Isiolo by road...about 450km om a straight line.

And Liboi on the Somali boarder is another 450km by road (300km straight).

You probably missed the point that this whole suggestion of Isiolo as capital city is driven by the fact that this is the most central town in Kenya. When you get to Isiolo, you are at the centre of our country.
