I think I heard the Census guy who was being interviewed on KTN in the morning say that they wont be releasing The ethnic/tribe figures.Saying that its against the Govt policy. Why did they put it in the questionnaire.

To help in planning, maybe.

I heard that western communities are less likely to be diabetic than the eastern communities.

We also have free circumcision in the new NHIF package

But I think it's good they don't break it down per tribe

FIRST: The figure of 50m is a serious over-estimate. The KNBS estimates the 1999 pop at 35m. I don't expect the actual census figure to be very far from that.

SECOND: there is no tribe anywhere in the world called abaluhya. We do, however, have abukusu etc.

THIRD: there is also no tribe anywhere in the world called kalenjin. There is however, Nandi etc

FOURTH: Population distribution by tribe is a useless and meaningless statistic!

By the way; I think the 1999 census was a a big sham. The enumerator who came to my house found the maid and collected my household data from her! This was quite common in Nairobi...

Thus the result must be taken with a fair share of doubt
