@cnn Very commendable from BAT. I'm placing my bet on kenya re to pull such a stunt. same with safaricom. The two have been resilient in this bear run Wealth is built through a relatively simple equation Wealth=Income + Investments - Lifestyle

I did not have many BAT but I regret selling them off a few years ago. I think they were 250-ish back then. There was a movement against BAT/tobacco with higher taxes, more regulation, crackdown on ads, etc. As a non-smoker, I thought smoking would reduce substantially with the higher prices on cigarettes but I under-estimated the will of smokers to smoke come what may. I thought BAT's profits would stagnate but was I wrong... Profits have been increasing and with the 100% Dividend Payout.. it just gets better. A well-managed PRIVATE firm. *IMHO, a nasty & unhealthy habit and even if I were a shareholder, I would encourage people NOT to smoke* Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

Stages in a company's lifespan. BAT is at maturity stage. This counter's only good for capital preservation "Buy when there's blood in the streets, even if the blood is your own."

I have heard those talks and reviews on BAT since 1998 and it keeps going strong. It has even surpassed the then cash cow and darling of reviews - EABL. They don't make lots of noise like others at NSE but they do their thing as 'people' wait for their decline period, which I believe is not coming soon. Formal education will make you a living. *IMHO, a nasty & unhealthy habit and even if I were a shareholder, I would encourage people NOT to smoke* Warren Buffett famously stated, "I'll tell you why I like the cigarette business. It costs a penny to make. Sell it for a dollar. It's addictive. And there's fantastic brand loyalty." Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.
