I've seen numerous complaints,in the Nation's Watchman column, about Safaricom's Super Ongea Tariff. Subscribers largely feel exploited by this tariff. In a previous post I tried to narrow down what I felt where SCOM's motivations for coming up with this tariff (basically to improve quality of service by 'conditioning' subscribers' calling habits,to free up capacity for data, and to charge premium rates for those intending to call in high traffic areas during peak hours e.g. CBD in the daytime.

MJ has responded to some of these complaints but they seem to persist.

I'd like to know from any SK members, more so the more sober and long standing members (not the modem hawkers and SCOM fanatics) whether they really enjoy lower rates,or at least the rates indicated on the handset at the time of making the call.

We should know that CCK has certain obligations to the consumer and I believe, separately, there is a consumer protection group for telecoms services.

What is your take? Is Super Ongea all that and a bag of chips?

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

simonKabz knows that Superongea tarriff is one of Scons impunity ..........It will never go down.....even over the weekends or in Turkana/Mandera/isiolo parts of the country.......Impunity.....I hope that the new constitution will end this impunity .....section 69 deals with consumers rights.....

sect 69 consumers have the right to :

(a)goods and services of reasonable quality

(c)protection of their health, safety and ECONOMIC interests

@Fundaah - thanks for putting it into a very topical context. Aside from Safaricom,Kenyans are exploited left right and centre - starting with the petroleum companies (therefore power, transport and food costs),the public service sector and finally the government - for taking taxes and not distributing equitably. Its understandable how they can allow telco operators to carry on with mediocre services since they are a big tax payer - ultimately the taxes they submit are accrued from Kenyans....

If you want to know the actual cost of making a call on super ongea u need first to dial *155#,otherwise whats displayed on your phone by the cell broadcast service is not always right.

In God i trust.

@ djinn

and to answer your question....

since i migrated to super ongea...

except for the first week,i have never called at less than 8/- and CBS has always showed 8/-..

my verdict: super ongea is just a crap!

Am in CBD Right now and my Cell broadcast displays 6/= while by dailing *155# I get a message saying 8/=.

I think the way to go is YU. Am getting my YU line by the end of the week. The maximum I will spend on my calls is 6/=.
