Has anyone in the last few months been on the Nakuru - Mau Summit - Tomboroa section - and going onwards to Eldoret?
I'm keen to know if this section has been completed and whether it would be better to go to Kampala via Nakur,Molo,Kericho,Kisumu,Busia (instead of Nakuru,Mau Summit,Timboroa,Eldoret to Malaba)
Any input most appreciated.
Thanks guys.

I used the Nakuru -Mau Summit- Timboroa road this past weekend. Most of it is tarmacked save for a stretch of about 15km between Sachang'wan and just after Mau Summit. Other than that the rest of the road is in near perfect condition and my guess is that the whole road should be complete in 3 months' time

Eldoret Malaba isn't that sweet........and so is the stretch between Burnt Forest and Timboroa...........Take Nakuru-Mau Summit-Kericho-Kisumu-Busia route.....expect bumpy sections at Salga-Sachang'wan,Kisumu Citi-Kodiaga,Rang'ala-Ugunja.......a total of about 40km and ain't so bumpy.......The rest of the road is Mwaaaaaaa.....!!...Bon voyage...!!

@Njunge - thanks. I could avoid Salgaa/Rongai by going via Njoro,Elburgon Molo - a bit longer if I recall well - and come out near Mau Summit - is that better to reduce the bumpiness?

@Djinn,
The bumpy section on the Mau Summit-Salgaa route is kidogo sana.Nothing more than 20 cumulative kilometres.....actually all potholes have been covered and you can still cruise at 100 and above especially if you'll be driving an off-road.........No need to use the Molo Elburgon route.It has tricky potholes all along...(By potholes i mean holes that can accommodate pots)

@Njunge - thanks man. then Nakuru-mau summit-kericho-los kogelos-busia it is. No 4x4 - bijuti 504 - kicking old school...and IMHO better than some '4x4s'

I can report now that the road is in fairly good shape with less diversions (just the one's Njunge pointed out - at Salgaa/Rongai and just before the Total Junction at Mau Summit). Otherwise,vis a vis the last time I went down that road,travel time is CONSIDERABLY less. More so on the Busia-Kampala side where ALL road work has been completed. The downside in Uganda is that despite the new roads,each time you pass a township,you need to crawl down to 50kph and the speed signs are repeated and the cops out with their radar guns (we were nabbed near Bugiri and wasted abt 20 minutes haggling over the 10kph difference on the speed gun....). Still,even with observing that,the time from the border to Kampala is MUCH less except for the INSANE traffic on entering Kampala (not to mention the very INFERIOR driving that is characteristic of Ugandan motorists in general and the hair raising boda bodas).

@ Djinn et al,
Any updates on the progress of this road? I intend to use the road later today.

Hi all,
Any road updates from Nairobi to Kampala? Which route is better between Busia and Malaba? Any info on diversions? Any more info is highly welcome.
Asanteni.
