Sometime back, the NTV documented that there are vast deposits of coal in mwngi area eastern province.I do think that if the leadership fully focused on ensuring that these deposits are exploited we can not only be middle income country by 2030 but a fully industrialized country by 2018.Look at Dubai and Abu Dhabi,10 years ago -1998 they were not in existence but now the story is different.

Just a reminder to Planning and Vision2030 minister,PM and my President .

where is the 'miracle' worker who is the duly elected member of parliament of that area? he should initiate a '24 hour' mining programme for the inhabitants of this constituency. or is he busy 'wiping' away his many foes from the neighbourhood?? pokea wiper lakini...

There is abundant coal in Mui basin enough to take this country to the next industrial level in 8 years flat.Analysis carried out in SA show that our coal is much superior due to low ash.........If utilised, our power bills would reduce by as much as 75%.It also happens that the said deposits are with 50 km of gypsum and pozzolinite deposits discovered in the same area.....costs of building would plummet......but hey, this is Kenya. All talk and no show.......Who will save us??

man....really sad about this...i remember one ukambani mp was complaining that we import coal from SA for thermal energy generation!...really ludicrous...i also beleive sasol have patented a process whereby they generate fuel from coal and maybe thats why a litre of fuel costs kes 56 in SA while it costs kes 73 here...so we have a -ve BOP position here every time the cost of crude goes up yet we have our own vast energy source?....this govt is bogus..lakini i think somebody in govt has been paid to stall coal extraction/minning

Don't forget the Tiomin saga in Kwale 10 years later.

I have never been a fan of minerals,I believe they never improve the lives of the local communities (the story of africa),but coal will specifically improve our countries energy dependence and we need to start the mining ASAP.

I was reading some Kengen print-up where one of their source of energy was to set up a coal plant at Mombasa and use imported coal to generate electricity. What does this mean for the Mwingi coal,is it not good?

I guess if you can't win with facts, you can always pen bile-laced,xenophobic rants to distract everyone.

We must also remember that there are 'stakeholders' whose business stands to suffer losses should we wake up and smell the coal.

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less
