French operator Orange has mandated Lazard to find a buyer for its mobile telecoms business in Uganda. Next up for Orange could be the sale of its mobile unit in Kenya, formerly Telkom Kenya Orange, which has been struggling against larger rivals Vodafone-backed Safaricom and Bharti Airtel’s local unit

Its alright. When we were busy making noise about "SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS PRACTICES", they thought they understand Kenyans' peculiar habits!!!!!

Only equity will shake mpesa when it buys or starts a teleco and converts all its agents and atms as mobile money agents at low rates

Harsh indictment on CCK this issue.
A non-competitive market makes consumers suffer.
And no impetus for Safaricom to pursue excellence; instead poor networks, wasteful spending, cronyism and cartels.

Is the name orange doomed?
are we heading towards a monopoly in the mobile sector?
Does this now validate the peculiar statement made by one of the CEO?. This is because no matter how good a deal the competition gives we still stick to the peculiar network.
Politics is just things to keep the people divided and foolish and put your trust in men and none of them can do nothing for you...

Equity and Nakumatt should pick this license up.
Interesting claims online be a fellow called @coldtusker.

o Prior to @AIRTEL_KE huge drop in calling rates, @SafaricomLtd was charging 12/- per minute for Off-net calls. Heck 8/- for On-Net calls

o And the price of SMS [whose variable cost is minimal] remained at crazy high prices coz the operators could get away with it

o Don't forget @SafaricomLtd had politically crooked Mobitelea as a 20% shareholder who wanted super-profits by stifling competition

o How powerful were the crooks behind Mobitelea? Even @SafaricomLtd as a listed firm refused to identify them. All hush-hush

o And @AIRTEL_KE original licensee (KenCell) is a political operator who was a front for other crooks. And media calls him a 'businessman'

o The crooks even got a piece of @OrangeKenya via Alcatraz. It just didn't pan out like it did in @SafaricomLtd & KenCell

o The 3rd licensee [Econet then @yuMobileKenya ] was frustrated by powerful crooks in GoK to allow @SafaricomLtd & KenCell gain an edge

o Cripple the 3rd licensee [Econet] meant there were only 2 players in the Mobile arena. An effective duopoly.

o Though @SafaricomLtd was smart introducing M-Pesa and @michaelj2 has an interesting tale to tell on how he managed to keep it going

o And @michaelj2 [before M-Pesa was introduced] told us [talk he gave in Boston] about a 'sticky' product @SafaricomLtd will introduce

o And @Nakumatt & @KeEquityBank want MVNO [not a full Mobile] license which means they need infrastructure. And who owns most of it?

Yes equity can be a big threat that's why these guys were quick to buyout Yu!! It has an opportunity to change the dynamics of the telco with its loyal customers.. though not sure its easy to convert them to simcards..

and that fellow called @Coldtusker is a honourable member of WAZUA!

That @Coldtusker TRUELY dislikes the crook that media call a 'businessman'!
