Good old safari rally that made Easter what it was; Nostalgic. In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins - cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later - H Geneen

Munari Sandro and Lofty Drews and of course there was Shiyukah's co-driver,the then RV roads engineer and millionaire businessman Kim Gatende.....Maybe i'll ever remember Joginder for his courage to take the rally with a DT Dobie Merc 280 alongside Vic Preston Junior in the late 70's.A rarity in rally shows then except from experienced rally drivers from Europe such as Bjorn Waldegard and Hannu Mikolla, who preffered the much more powerful Merc 450......RIP Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

This used to be the time when we would line the roads and wait for Safari rally cars to zoom past. There were two Kenyans, Peter Mukundi and Njathi who would keep us waiting more than 2hrs after the 1st car had zoomed off. Actually, the Winners would be splashing champagne at KICC as we waited for the duo. Truth forever on the scaffold Wrong forever on the throne (James Russell Rowell)

One poorly kept secret was that Jonathan Moi was always described as a "renowned rally driver" yet nobody would tell you that he never completed any race. Always retiring long before the final leg.

But he was a Renowned Rally Driver.Wining and Finishing was a different story all together.Lets celebrate our own. Him and others made the rally. We had something to look foward to. I'm not sure Mukundi ever made it to the finish. Patrick Njiru was the main hope of Kenyans. I remember the 1st time he actually finished the rally. It was a huge deal. Indigenous Kenyans rarely finished the rally. On the other hand we could claim Shekhar Mehta and be happy that he left Uganda to come and represent us

Thuku finished the rally in 1971. It took 16 years before another indigenous Kenyan finished. That was Njiru
