I think the UK is just protecting its people from future effects of khat....here no one really wants to talk about it..I understand that it can be processed to make a drug and 'good' as cocaine...

Amphetamine actually. The active ingredients in khat - cathinone, methcathinone and I think merucanthin or something like that - are structural analogues of amphetamine, a potent drug of abuse.

This has been in the news for too long now.
Khat is big business, as part of perishable exports.
What will happen to Meru farmers and cartels since the somalia market is well supplied.
