About 2 years ago,my small wedding was around the corner (actually exactly a month).I was newly posted in this area;my job involves interacting with a lot of people.I had become acquainted with the locals.
A lady/girl came up to me one day (and a few days afterwards) with the story that she had gone to the doctor with some pains and she was asked when was the last time she 'engaged'.She was told that the pains were as result of not engaging for a long time (she had said 2008;since separating from hubby)
She said she feared her locality so much and she had observed me for a long time and i had been a 'good boy'.she put it bluntly that i was to be the medicine that evening (there was this confidence in her eyes that she would get her way).
Now this is where things become elephant. i had always suspected the worst coz her baby looked always sickly.A few days later a local told me not to 'joke in this place'.I started yapping how i cannot even try,not that kind of person etc etc (self righteous attitude).I got really embarrassed when he said 'sisi tulijikulialinia kitambo'(direct translation.
What amazes/shocks me up to today is why would someone knowingly ... another person? would she have suggested protection? This is the reason i believe there is always a spirit behind every happening coz some things defy logic.Pray

kwani ulikua unapewa vitu vimerogwa? thank god for your lucky escape.
a friend hooked up with a girl after a week of kukatiana they agreed they wouldnt do it untill they get tested. according to my friend that was the acid test because he expected the girl to flee on hearing about his demands fo the test. after a few more days we went out to a local club(my friend and his girl included). .there things become hot and they spent the night together. the next day my jamaa was telling us that after the first and the second landing the kadem suggested that to spice things up they throw away protection she explained there was nothing to worry about as they will still go for the test in the course of the week. according to him he continued making unprotected landings for more than 3 weeks where the girl started evading any suggestions of going for the test. it become so scary for the jamaa that he decided to end things after about 2 months. this happened about 9 months a go and the jamaa is still traumatised because untill today he still says "i hope jane(not her real name) hakuniua" he is also afraid of going for the test..
Politics is just things to keep the people divided and foolish and put your trust in men and none of them can do nothing for you...

To answer your question I think this is a way of getting back to the community for it's stigma.
In so many places the fact that someone is in the process of acquiring a visa just tells so many people what a life you were leading there before(this is not necessarily the truth).
My ex-colleague was accorded a less than average burial because of the cause of his death.
Reason being that in his community if you get a Visa it's because you have been landing in all kinds of airports and do not deserve respect.
When I opened up to my colleagues once that I had been to a VCT, I was subjected to an interrogation(informally) of why I decided to go in the first place.
In other words some people with that condition sambaza as their way of telling others that it can happen to anyone and it's not that they were so bad.
IMO humanity is yet to mature to some facts.
My two cents.

Landings are one of the favorite weapons of the enemy.

As you fear HIV, know there are worse STIs that kill you faster.

Hepatitis and HPV among others. One can live for long managing HIV, Hepatitis finishes one's liver while HPV gives you crazy cancers. Worse still. you can get HPV even with condoms.

With the close proximity of sexual contact, one is susceptible to air borne and skin diseases including TB, which of late is mutating to be drug resistant.

HIV is still one of the most lethal viruses, for the simple reason that it inserts its genome into your DNA. The consequence is that your body machinery to its own convenience.
Hepatitis on the other hand replicates in the cytoplasm and it can be expunged for good.
