I thot the money contributed towards this iniatiative goes towards covering medical expenses of those who cant afford and are in dire need of the treatment.

Its a shame for them to ask a kibera resident who earns 6K per month, got six children and the only bread winner to raise 200K,How on earth is he supposed to raise this?

I don't think and feel it was ryt for them to do so and yet the CEO didn't want to be interviewed in camera, why?

And why did that guy made SIX productive landings when he knew he was only earning 6K?
Somethings need to be looked at both angles,Mater is a private hospital in a Capitalist society not Socialist society.Theirs is to make money and more of it.

@impunity,blame the guy for making multiple landings without thinking of the consequences bt on the other hand, isn't the heart run supposed to be used to benefit those who can't afford the service and not to benefit mater

What criteria is used to determine who benefits from this?
Cz this baby(a friend's) was diagonised with Congenital Heart Defect " Trancus Arteriosus Type I- She is required to undergo an URGENT open heart... surgery at a cost that is way above what the family can afford.
I understand they give priority to emergency cases? since the list is long?
I wish she benefits from this cz she's living on borrowed time.

Luckily,Karen hospital volunteered to treat the young girl free of charge. Reportedly mater hospital had requested 200K,a third of the total cost and the family couldn't afford

Either way mater run is such a noble course helping kids live healthy.

I don't think he was asking for help raising his family - one of his kids has a heart condition, am sure most people even with a small family can not afford to raise the said amount.
yes Mater is a private hospital as mentioned above, but why then are they asking the society to contribute for the open heart operations - thats shows that even though its a private hospital in a Capitalist society there exists some socialist tendencies - thats why the man took his daughter for treatment.

Interestingly; the Mater Heart Run used to be called the "Dettol Heart Run". It was speareded by the Gikonyos who now own Karen Hospital.

The main sponsor was Dettol but they pulled out of the event after an audit revealed that the Gikonyos were not forthright in the management of the monies raised.

Mater Hospital jumped-in to rescue the scheme...

Mater is only private in the sense that it is not government owned. However, it is a NOT-FOR-PROFIT institution.... just like Aga Khan, MP Shah, Gertrude's and Nairobi Hospital.

But note that being 'not-for-profit' does not mean that it is a charity! It's services are NOT subsidised. Patients have to pay the "full cost" but the owners never ever get dividends - all surpluses (NOT profits) are ploughed back for further development of the hospital.

Thus, it is not a capitalist institution.

Mater hos just like other institutions like strathmore claim its not for profit. NGO`s are the only institution not for profit

Mater makes profits ,its not charity. If it wasn't for profit,it wouldn't be charging patient.

The not for profit line was a line used by NGO`s in the 20th century to solicit money from europen union and other donors especially from spain who would fall for it
