Hi all,

I'm in the process of starting an online business. I will be paying for some services once in a while using a visa debit card.Now for that I think I can use PayPal to make secure payments.

My problem is receiving payments.I will need to receive payments from a number of buyers in US and maybe UK. PayPal is really the trusted payment gateway there. However,I have read that in Kenya,and in fact almost all of Africa,you can only use it to make payments and not to receive.So what other method is available for those wishing to receive payments?

I expect to sell the items and services at around $50 on average.So i need a means that those Americans will be comfortable with,and also one that's cost effective for me.

Anyone out there?

Let's face it,paypal is one of the most efficient services in the market. For my online venture I had to use the services of a US resident to open the a/c then I got a debit card which I use to withdraw funds in kenya

Having dealt with Paypal for years I would recommend you avoid using them if you are not following their terms and conditions.

Among the main ones is that you cannot recieve money if you are in Kenya. Granted you can have someone send you a debit card but I can assure you,with paypal,it normally ends in pain.

They can close your account in a hurry together with your money if you even login from another country. You can escape it for sometime,but they do eventually catch up.

If you wish to do ecommerce online,open an account with 2checkout. They are more Kenya friendly and you will get your money without fear of the great paypal shutting down your account.

2checkout allows you to take credit cards as well as paypal payments so you never have to worry of never qualifying for paypal again.

@ alma i don't know which paypal you are referring to but the one i know does indeed allow you to login from a foreign country. I have been logging in every other day from Kenya to check my online balance with absolutely no problems.

Check out paypal.com/ke which is the kenyan version of paypal. They indeed track your use of the debit card which is meant for use worldwide when people go on holiday e.t.c

Plus they can't close your a/c. They only need you to verify that you will be using the card outside the country which can be cleared up by calling their customer care office from within the US. Simple...

Having been with paypal since the beginnig of time,I can assure you,be very careful with them.

If you signed up with an addy in the USA then started loging into your account from another country,trust me,they will block your account soon.

The debit card is easy as you can use anywhere. However,loging into your account,you have to be very careful. I am talking from experience of having my paypal accounts blocked more than 4 times in my 'short' online career.

I will explain. If your brother opened the account in New Hampshire then you start login into the account from another state let alone a country,it can automatically shut you out. I am not talking things that have not happened. This happens frequently.

The solution to paypal is simple. Set up an account with 2checkout and you can get paid by credit cards and even paypal if you wish.

trying anything else I can assure you is only short term and paypal loves attacking when you have money stashed in there.

If you must use paypal,2checkout has the facility to allow you to recieve paypal payments.
