one thing about kenya is that we have the lowest level of preparedness in the world . when the forestry department sends out people with brooms to put out a forest fire then you know we are in problems . someone needs to be sacked

And I saw one on TV beating the fire with a frond, fighting overpowering smoke and a Heckler & Koch G3 strapped on his back. Granted they might not have the equipment, but they should at least have smoke masks and leave the arms in the armoury.

I think we need to understand that the fire is not accessible by road. So no fire engines can get there. Air is the bet means and I think if we can spray huge wheat plantations with fertilizer from the air with utmost precision, there is no reason why we cannot spray foam from the same planes.

But I think those guys on the ground are daring!!!!

The KWS chopper been joined by another one offered by a volunteer, Lady Lori, and are now spraying the forest with water.

British Army has provided one chopper which is helping survey the areas affected and airlifting the firefighters at the regions affected.

3 choppers in total. Yaani KWS has only one fire fighting chopper?? wooi why cant the goverment hire some from our neighbours before this fire consumes the whole region cz its very possible? Are we really serious or is somebody sleeping on his job?

KFS Nyeri zonal manager Muchiri Mathinji says 'We urge anybody Sad Sad who can offer any kind of help to come on board to save our forest.

This fire that is burning the 'center of our national identity' and the efforts to counter it are very similar to what is happening in our nation-state, and in extension to this forum (specifically regarding the general state of political consciousness and discussion).

Now I pray that the flames will soon meet the rain, and the other fires will meet a people who are resigned to 'mambo ya kitambo' and are willing to start planting again in a new world.

The picture at the top reminds us that Kenya is a third world country, I'll prepared to sort out any of our problems. If it is not fires, it is floods, malaria, AIDS, lack of medication, no water. While this is going on, we have not had any help from mighty China. Yet our politicians keep thumping their chest that we are a sovereign state and don't want any western influence. I bet this is a reality check of how miserable a country we are that needs foreign aid endlessly. ' tunaomba donors watusaidie smile '
