i think one thing that has been overlooked and ignored is the fact that the new government structure is going to be a huge drain to the limited resources(taxes) that we have or will collect. No one in this country has told us what is going to be the real cost of this new government structure. The country drafted the constitution and came up with this new structure, now kenyans are going to vote for governors, senators, more mps etc and then and only then shall we know the true cost of this new government.Fellow wazuans i ask isn't that the height of absurdity? The laws to govern the county governments are being rushed to fit a specific time frame therefore they will not be upto to par.If we cannot tame corruption in the national government how are we going to prevent or stop corruption in this newly formed county governments? kenyans need to ask questions and stop thinking that it will smooth sailing. This new expensive government structure is the biggest threat to your money and future standards of living. You already have income taxes + VAT now with the county governments expect to pay property taxes on top of all the other taxes.what are your thoughts wazuans?

Depends on what salaries we fix thro 'Remuneration commission'. Are we the citizens not capable of providing checks and balances.

Cheserem released his report end of february.he has been very vocal on the lack of seriousness by gvt. and parliament on matters to do with financing and setting up effective county governments. Here is a brief on the report.

The biggest issue I have with the devolved government is the fact that the financing of the county governments will rely on the national budget to the tune of 15%. In this case, the county governments look like they'll be formed to just use up the money from the national allocation. Ideally, the counties ought to generate their money and be self sustaining. In the process of generating the cash, then they'll have no option but to empower the masses. That over-reliance with the budgetary allocation from the cetral government is what I don't like. A county like Narok has serious revenues and I don't see why they should even be funded.

"Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried." ~ Winston Churchill

Kenyans wanted a devolved govt structure, Kenyans voted for it, Kenyans have to fund it.

But I see the greatest threat as regional Geopolitical atmosphere

The biggest threat to this economy was PEV - When we all virtually stopped working & being productive. People invest & work those loans get paid. Fanyeni kazi!

Is it not skewed thinking that someone would borrow from a (devt) bank to expand their business (economy) only to stand back and smile at it? Fanyeni kazi! Lipeni deni, retain the rest.

A bit of a concern now (sustained expensive tbills/bonds), but it confirms that the oil play is commercial... Otherwise I don't see why gubberment could risk their guts this much...

@sparkly I don't appreciate disconnected thinking. We are the very Kenyans enjoying improving infrastructure but to turn around and distance ourselves from where it comes from is either laziness or hypocrisy or just both! Instead, we should appreciate & find productive use for it in order to sustain the momentum - simple.

The Senate is part of parliament. Parliament will now have 2 houses: the Senate and the National Assembly. The Senate is an extra useless expense IMHO. Just one of the copy-paste blunders of the new law. Taxpayers should expect to feel the pinch around 2016 when the central govt leaves the county govts to manage their wage bill.

And as usual Kenyans will have voted in useless people who just want to have titles yet they have no idea what they are supposed to be doing. Pray

Expect to pay more taxes so as to finance big government.Hopefully Kenyans realize soon how expensive the new system of govt. will be and try change it before we vote in new govt officials. You will never be able to reverse this once the first election takes place.
