I am going down to the coast for Xmas [as usual] and I planning my drive down. I normally split the journey into three legs: Nbi to Makindi; Makindu to Voi; Voi to Mombasa.

But as I drive by Kiboko township [just befor Makindu], I have always notice the "Hunter's Lodge" and wondered if it would be a good place for a stop-over. Perhaps for some late breakfast.

Who has ever stopped there? How is the food? And what's the price guide?

Spent a night there. PATHETIC. Its just a waste of space. The food was horrible I think it had stayed in the freezer for months. Nothing was fresh other than the eggs. The snacks we had carried saved the day. The rooms were unkempt foe the price they were charging. I was VERY VERY surprised to find out then that it was a mada group hotel. You would rather travel to mtito or sultan and eat there

When on a bus, as I'm wont to be, it is a blur as the Coast Air is programmed to stop only at Mtito. But as we zoom past the place, I can't recall ever seeing a motogari in the parking.

Mukiha,
I concur with @Dash. I stayed there overnight in August 2008 and I could not believe that the facility had sank that low. In the 1980s, it was an exclusive facility - the only thing remaining is the name and its prime location. Again, I would suggest you try Mutito Andei or even Kibwezi. There is a new facility called Mua village in Kibwezi town where I stayed in May this year at very competitive prices (Kshs 1,000 b&b). Could be worth checking if they have also maintained the standards or they have gone south.
