I have just upgraded my Yahoo! mail to the new look.... it's yummy! And much, much, faster...

Or, did everyone move away from Yahoo to G-MAIL?

Ooooh yahoo? If you are still on yahoo, you are so much behind. Switch to gmail and see the available features. You will wonder why you have been using this yahoo thing for all this time. Gmail is fun.

Apart from send and receive email, what else does it do?

Amazing...just like those guys who claim to use Nokia "smartphones"....I don't think "very many" is accurate though.

I used to backup my laptop on DVD. But I switched to doing it on Google docs, which comes with gmail. I get 20GB storage for US$5 per year, and have stored all my files, photos, documents on the cloud. I'm also able to access all these from my android idiot using an app called docs. Quantifiable saving - I used to use 4 DVDs (ksh 200/- x 4) against US$ 5 (450/-). Non-quantifiable saving - risk of loss/damage of DVDs, access to my documents where there is internet....

@Mukiha and Njunge,.....hahahahahaaa..I see you are getting old. Or is it that you fear technology?

The features of gmail are so many that you should not use the word compare, gmail and yahoo on one sentence. You can back up you sensitive documents on the net, organize your work on google calendar, photos etc beside the intuitive way of handling mail including integration with outlook, searching for old mail etc. You may not understand until you experience it.

Here are some of the most current features.

http://mail.google.com/m...elp/about_whatsnew.html

http://mail.google.com/mail/help/about.html

In you are in business and you handle mail, you are wasting lots of time in yahoo.

If you receive one mail per week, may be you do not need gmail. You may need to know that some corporates are now using gmail but you will not know from their email addresses. An Example is KCA University.

@Njunge, soon, you could store your beer on gmail. Please suggest this to them and they will start working on it. Suggest on the link below.

@ wanyee, cloud computing is the future of data storage. even banks outsource data storage services to cloud computing firms. I bet some of your banking info is stored in a server somewhere in Europe or US, upende usipende.
if your concern is reliability and not security, I would suggest you google 'Google Spanner' and see the mind boggling redundancies that Google servers employ. Google confidently asserts that only in a worldwide nuclear Holocaust or Armageddon would it completely shutdown.
It is a curious fact that of all the illusions that beset mankind, none is quite as curious as that tendency to suppose that we are mentally and morally superior to those who differ from us in opinion.

Top 10 reasons to use Gmail

Less spam
You don't like spam. Neither do we. Gmail blocks spam before it gets to your inbox.

Lots of space
Over 7607.201105 MBs of free storage space – and tons more to purchase if you need it.

Search
Search instantly within Gmail to find the exact message you want.

Call phones
Call any phone in the U.S. and Canada for free and get low rates to other countries.

Conversation view
Messages are grouped with the relevant responses -- so you can always see messages in context.

Priority InboxBeta
Automatically separate important email from everything else and focus on what really matters.

Built-in chat
With just one click, you can chat in Gmail or talk face to face with voice and video chat.

Secure
Just like bank websites, Gmail uses HTTPS encryption to keep your mail secure.

On the go
Access Gmail from your phone – regardless of which device you use.

Free!
All this for free? You betcha.

============

Now, aren't all these features also available on yahoo?

I think the only reason people go to G-MAIL is when they find that their username is already taken in yahoo!

In other words, those who came into email late. Who wants an address like mukiha1962@yahoo.com when mukiha@gmail.com is available?
