Its been up n down for me whilst i was in a 3g coverage area,network strength was low,but speeeds were generally good. Now that i am out of 3G coverage and using edge the speed are holding up,but i am guessing its coz traffic may be lower than the peak of day. Its proved quite useful. I can even stream youtube flicks bila breaking!!!

@simonkabz,are you using the 200bob unlimited plan? coz my initial guess would be that the 200bob plan has slower speeds.

this unlimited thing is spoiling the broth...

last week the speed has always been WCDMA (i guess it si 3G) but of late it is always HSDPA (edge or something of the sort)...

The 200 bob unlimited offer has nothing to do with the change in WCDMA,HSDPA or EDGE as hinted.........

The slow speeds being experienced are as a result of many users connecting to the Internet at the same time hence contention for the limited/scarce radio resources.

Chang from HSDPA to EDGE and vice versa could indicate that you are in between cells that thus the signal keeps oscillating between 3G and EDGE as one of the cells could be having 3G while the other cell could only be having EDGE/GPRS. Alternatively it could point to a region with low 3g coverage.

@all

Whether using a safaricom or any other connection,when downloading anything use internet downloader manager- it does it in in a shorter period.

There really was something terribly wrong last night,launching google was talking 4 minutes to display the page...customer care as always was unreachable!! I concur,this 200 bob unlimited access clearly can't be sustained by the Safaricom network at peak time...

200 bob on a modem that keeps going on and off as it carelessly shifts from EDGE to WCDMA! With congestion in place,You need gumboots to wade through the mud.

@chemos - could you give hints on this downloading stuff,ie download managers,torrents,sources etc. Had tried utorrent and others and got lost in the maze of jargon,sijui leechers,feeders,or suckers or whatever they call them.

that issue of unblocking the modem has been discussed here again...

can't remember the thread but i guess you can dig it out...

search modems or something close to that...
