This a GEM.....its really cheap at the moment..looking at their results for the first half their finance costs are down by 38 percent..they are utlising their banking facilities more efficiently..they have stopped credit sales meaning no more bad debts...this share is STRONG BUY at the current price.

No wonder there is still demand for this counter today...

@VVS, These results are absolutely nothing to write home about. Please note the EPS of 0.64 is an annualised EPS. EPS for H1 is ONLY 0.32.

I don't have any shares here but I would certainly not be buying any with this kind of result.

Oops! I thought the EPS they showed as for 1H [as most firms do]... Anyway, I expect KK to make that & more for its 1H... and shares are cheaper!

NSE/CMA should clamp down on the annualisation of EPS's unless it is clearly indicated as such. In my view this is being (mis)used to mislead gullible investors (of course I know you are not one).

KK is indeed a much better deal, without a shadow of doubt.

I agree with your observations but STRONGLY DISAGREE about CMC being a buy, let alone a strong buy at current prices. You can only make money on this one by hoping that one of the key shareholders decides to "make a big purchase" at 12 as they ocassionally do.

How come KK's 2H was considerably lower than 1H? Could the time their licence was temporarily halted be the only culprit? Do (Don't) you expect price controls to bite hard?

I guess as much re: KK. So, you can anticipate that 2011 will be better.

Unfortunately for the wanjikus and fortunately for @VVS, the price controls seem to be controlled "upwards".... I think the OMs are making more money with the price controls than before the controls... compare prices per litre now and prices per litre when the barrel was selling at the highest before price controls.

Not quite: projections based on margins before control indicate that the price would now be approaching Sh130 for super in Nairobi.

The oft-quoted peak of oil prices lasted a very short time (few days) to have had a lasting effect on pump prices.

@mukiha is right coz the rise to $140 for oil was rapid but had no staying power [lucky for us] AND the KES/US$ rate was 70/- or so.

Oil prices slipped from $140 to $40 rapidly which led to substantial losses for KK who had already 'bought' pricey fuel.

Plus at the time, the KPC, KPA & KPRL charges were lower than they are at present. Financing costs were also lower [remember the low interest rate environment at the time?]

Ksh 1.00 up does not qualify for "....its going up and up and up..." especially when u factor in costs... at about 13-14..you can say more assuredly "....its going up and up and up..."

I admit I have been surprised to see CMC cross the Kshs 12 level. I have seen it trade at around that level a few times in the past but the volumes were never convincing and usually the price has tended to fall fairly quickly after touching 12. I wonder what will happen this time?

See CMC price chart over the last 12 months.

That makes two of us.... What is pushing this share up? Did i miss some info somewhere? Well, am not complaining because it is on my next "get-rid-off list".
