Hi guys. We had a near miss on Sunday night between kenol and kakuzi after two of our tires were deflated using nails. The mat driver pushed the mat till it could no longer move so he parked it across the road, hence blocking the road and creating a temporary jam. A few mats stopped by the highway till he changed the tires (both borrowed from other mats). I hear that area is
notorious. Take heed.

I hope you tipped that driver. He saved your lives. Literally.
I almost lost an uncle and brother to those goons. One had to run
Through the middle of river as guys were chasing him from the sides
To kill him. Mind you, they had already robbed him and the guy
Was running in his boxers in a river at night.

that section is notorious and bad news. if driving along that section after 6pm, avoid the edges and branches/leaves on the road as they contain nails. i had a nasty experience along the same section. its by the grace of God that i escaped unhurt n unrobbed.

I'm not so sure on whether I would stop or make a u-turn if I found a saloon car at the middle of the road at 11PM. Unlike a PSV u just can't tell whether you are being set up. It might be better to just stop some distance away, stay in the car, keep doors locked and engine running until more drivers stop. Just to be safe. Majority of those guys don't do guns but pangas and other crude weapons. And many don't just rob. They also injure you. Never understood why they must hurt and humiliate one instead of just picking phones and cash and hitting the road.
Thanks for the tips on the leaves guys. I hadn't known of that one

Don't stop some 'distance away'. This guys do their calculations and know how far you are likely to go before you have to stop the car. Believe me you'll get a part of the group waiting for you in that vicinity. If you can - and this is a big if - do a U turn and stop some 'distance away' but in the opposite direction. This is assuming that the direction you are coming from is not 'more dangerous' e.g. more isolated etc.

One more thing, staying in the car is more dangerous than getting out. It's like a chicken that doesn't want to be slaughtered deciding to stay in the coop. It takes less than 30 seconds to shatter a window and open the doors. I say, if you have driven a reasonable distance and can't push the car anymore, and there is a thicket, a plantation etc. nearby, get out of the car, lock the doors and hit the ground running. It is harder to trace a person in a coffee/maize plantation than a fellow in car parked by the roadside. Survival 101 - Maichblack Military School.

And stick to tubeless tyres - They lose air at a much slower rate so you can drive further before they are completely deflated.
