I agree with you reslfj. Most of what goes into print regarding the analogue-digital transition borders on peddling of misinformation.

If I had a way of holding a loaded gun to the policy-makers heads, I'd just give one order: DVB-T2!.

We, the 3rd world countries are in the enviable position of being able to jump onto mature and at times superior technologies by learning from the 1st world early adopters; but hey, we often are fixated on watching their butts - following exactly the same path as they did! d'oh!

DVB-T2 receivers can receive both -T and -T2, but DVB-T receivers cannot receive DVB-T2. So that one is a 'No'.

On the above, I meant to bring out this:
a.) If we follow the ITU-T proposals, then T&T2 would run alongside each other for a while. (We already have T on air). Hence Alpha2 has nothing to worry about.

b.) Assuming we ignore the ITU-T proposal and choose to go purely DVB-T2, then as everyone else looks for an analogue to DVB-T2 converter, (Not sure if they are there yet) Alpha2 would be looking for a DVB-T to DVB-T2 converter. That's according to my interpretation of the commercial write-up below:

Or am I just riding on false hope here?

This is seriously technical!
Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

Thank you all for the info. I have digested all the posts and the info contained in the links. I think to be on the safe side I will now shop around for a DVB-T2 Converter as well..just in case I need it. Are the current converters in the Kenyan market able to convert from analogue to DVB-T2?
@outvestor..Luckily my LG TV has both analogue and digital systems.
What I have realised is that even in Europe, this digital biashara is still very new and its also confusion galore!! So both LG and Samsung are producing TVs that still have both analogue and digital systems..Question is why are such TVs not being exported to Kenya?

The only time you should be looking down on others is when you are helping them up.

@Horton, and i really pitty the guys who will buy those 3D Tvs in kenya where technology wise we are alittle bit behind. The functionality of the full HD TVs are still to be realised in kenya where our TV stations are still broadcasting in SD. It is very frustrating when guys go buying a TV then the Electronics guys play HD videos to show how the TV is clear only to find a complete differerent scenario when you get home.

The DVB-T2 receiver (tuner, converter) will connect directly to the TV set via an HDMI cable (or SCART, if only SDTV) .
The DVB-T receiver inside the TV set will not be used. The DVB-T2 reciever will process all signals - DVB-T or DVB-T2 - available from the aerial (antenna).

Reciver boxes (STB's, converters ...) are available in the Uk from several sources.
