Is it on the road? Which route(valid TLB)? under which sacco? What registration?..............And finally why are you selling?

Its true you might get one going for that price but whats the overall condition, mileage etc?but do your homework first before buying cheap. Also note that after making your initial purchase you need further capital for registration, floor job, fitting seats, installing speed governor, sliding window frames, new suspension springs, new tyres and rims, paint-job(if necessary), music system . ...the list is endless.

On average the above items will set you back between Kes.150,000 to 300,000 or more if you want to pimp it.Add that to your initial cost and we are already talking about a cool 1.2Million.

Anyway, this van has a tracking device already fitted,10 cd changer+flat screen, plus "goodwill" so to speak as it is already in a sacco hence you won't have to part with 50K or more to join. if you do your math well you will end up saving in excess of Kes.300,000 which you could invest in a plot etc.

Another thing to note is that whether ur mat is a KBM or KBA the returns are pretty much the same out there.

I hope to send u the photos soon. Very nice van.

A matatu has one thing in common with shares. past performances cannot be used to predict the future. besides the gadgets you have installed are illegal and can get your nice van declared un road worthy. I will value the van at 600 k

@impunity
Please explain your beef with the nissans.
There are so many nissan matatu out there and they were the original 14 seaters way back before the toyos and the old ones are still on the road!

The average productive life of a Nissan mat is exactly what 2Importa has clearly said:ONE YEAR and the thing is kaput! The rest of the year is just pain and more pain.
They were the first to be 14 pax van in Kenya, thats true.
But they age so fast.
Why does an Hiace cost as much as twice the the Nissan Caravan yet they are of the same capacity and engine capacity?

mmmmmmmmmh..... why just buy another vehicle for the sake of it if this is still THIS good? Now when you add all that, you make it sound too good.... and you know what that does to some of us.

I think you just stopped short of calling me a fraud, but no offence taken since we are nairobians and we know this city and its inhabitants well.
let no one tell you a hiace is better than a nissan, why, a vehicles life depends on how it is driven and maintained.Period.

If you are a serious buyer and seeing is believing you can call me to view the vehicle.

@murenj, please tell us the basis of your valuation since you have not seen it yet.

I think kenyans have got some stereotyping issues especially being a "toyota country".

experience is the best teacher. Is there anyone out there in the transport industry? Please educate our friends in this forum.

this model is relatively new on the market and spares are still expensive. mechanics are not so familiar with this make. after one year what is left is an impending huge bill

toyota hiace engines are good for a million kms while nissan lasts around 300k.kms...U cant beat toyota when it come to value for money...plus nissan engines are weak and cant cruise as well as hiace engines...matatus are usually junk within 3yrs so by then you should have recouped your investment...sadly few do.
The utimate goal of investing is to buy low sell high;if we re-write this core equation in psychology terms it becomes buy fear sell greed.

Most probably the guy has done the matha and realised that running a toyota is cheaper then running a nissan in Kenya, thus wants to offload the stress to someone else. Nothing wrong with that, but 850k for a used Nissan is quite on the higher side.

ati running toyota mat is cheaper and that they have shorter lifetime than Toyota mats? what crap? these's just one the kawaida stereotypes in kenya! The oldest mats on the road are nissan and they are more than the toyos and have actually sold higher than the hiace! see link below

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Caravan

the model mentioned by importa here is the one with direct injection engine (turbo?) which is sensitive to fuel quality and requires diligent service just like the toyo’s direct injection D4D engines; remember the Toyota D4 phobia but that does not mean all D4 owners have problems but if the model quoted here is a turbo diesel I would understand as most mechs are not familiar with it(engine diagnostics)including spare parts cost.Even with the toyo mats the choice of engine matters
