In a nutshell, eps HY is about 10bob
Pretax up 21% which is not bad for a mature bank.
Delinquencies up 3.6%
Rights at 165.45 so dilution is(if u dont participate) a mere 5%
Just realized, they are catching up to BBK 750m to go.

Thoughts? Comments?

Have I missed it or these guys haven't proposed an interim dividend?Sad They have traditionally paid three dividends in a year.

I also noticed this. Yap, no dividends declared. Maybe they have decided to reduce the dividends incidences from 3 to 2. Or maybe they have decided to retain earnings for the BBK custodial business purchase. Anyone knows why no dividends?

Why pay a dividend when you are going to shareholders to raise cash? It's better/cheaper to NOT pay a dividend than raise cash thru a Rights Issue...

Rights Issue includes additional costs for lawyers, brokers, CMA, NSE, etc...

Yet the rights issue is on, so why not just pay the dividends?

I hold SCB because it is a dividend stock. A change in dividend policy will certainly affect my decision making, funds raising not withstanding. After all they had intimated that the funds from the rights issue would be enough to buy the BBK thingie.

Peni mbili... Was I not clear?

Paying a dividend when you are RAISING cash... means you need to raise ADDITIONAL cash to cover the dividend... Silly when you pay a cost 3%+ to raise money!!!

StanChart are not idiots but look at their counterpart KCB for lessons on how NOT to run a bank...

Another scam artist is Stanbic... who screw their minority shareholders over & over...

Stanchart is a slow grower...the short bursts of profitability shouldnt trick guys to believe its a fast grower and pay prince like prices for toad like co.s
The utimate goal of investing is to buy low sell high;if we re-write this core equation in psychology terms it becomes buy fear sell greed.

@vvs,extrapolating first quarter into half year formed part basis of his play.Remember first quarter was 40% YoY.If the rest of his expectations come true the price then may recover. In the short term i see it headed for 240.
