I grew up in shags and once in a loooong time I would visit my cousins in NBI. What I didn't understand is why there were lights on the streets. All I knew that light was needed inside the house only. I didn't see the sense,I didn't see the need for lights on the streets. In shags if we had a lamp in the kitchen,we woudn't even have another one in the bedroom!
Lord, thank you!

whatever happened to the guy who used to present the tv programme called 'joy bringers'?

back in the day there was only one tv channel called vok,now kbc. when it was time for the soap opera called 'tushauriane' we used to sit down still including mumsy,switch of the lights and thoroughly enjoy the great kipindi. i always wonder what happened to the cast of this show. akina joe (dennis kashero),dennis (tony msalame) esther,jairo. these guys were like will smiths and beyonces of today!

there was also 'music time' with uncle fred obachi machokaaaa,the blackest man in africa! sometimes he would be assisted by this charming,elegant and bootylicous girl called linda waka. at the time,i though she was the most beautiful woman on planet earth!

but really,nothing excited me more than packing my bag to go shagz to visit and stay with grandma-rest in peace-. the roasted sweet potatoes,feeding the rabbist,going swimming in the river,going hiking on the hills,climbing trees and stealing mangos from the eighbouring farms,helping with slaughtering goats and making mutura...i could go on till morning!

my 2 cent worth

I sometimes wonder what became of all those radio personalities and ma fans whose names were always being mentioned in great music programmes: Moses Omunyololo,Mama Safi agneta machinga (I think she was of Naks and Mama Safi was the in thing soap detergent then). And presenters like Wanjiru Kago (Breakfast Show),John Karani,Eddie Fondo,etc. At least John Obongo Jnr of the 'Sundowner' fame is still at his thang till today. Jeff Mwangemi and his Poo! Pooo! Pooo! Nairobi massive! reggae programme every thursday morning..

TV progs like Six Million Dollar man when we were small kids were simply a must. Also Hulk,Famous 4 (recently re-done by Film hses). Mostly watched TAZAMA mobile cinema,a walk-in with a running sheng commentary by one of the guys showing the show...never mind he sometimes said his own things that were not in he movie.

Guys also had briefs zimeandikwa 007,weee weee. Enyewe u were THE MAN if u had this under your trouser.

And catapults! Awuuwu,I was a real terrorist with that!

@Intelli,
Alongside Incredible hulk you forgot 'Hardy boys','Super woman' . On Tuesdays there was Earl Jones on 'Moving on' and Thursdays were my fav with 'Remington Steele' (Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist).......'Solid gold' which was unceremoniously replaced by 'Soul Train'....Sam Madoka's 'This is it'....at 6.15pm everyday there would be 'Just a moment'....wewee.......Of course the only sports programmes were'Gillette world sports special',' Brazilian soccer' and later on,'football made in Germany.'.....Good times those.......haa,circus time,muppet show,wood pecker......and uhhhhm!!......Fat Albert and the Cosby kids.......memories.

@njung'e how could i forget all those - kwanza Muppet Show and Wood pecker!!! For radio we knew all songs by default as there was no other station except VoK- father,mother and tois would all be singing the same VoK-broadcasted songs...Sigalame,Afro mtoto wa Sagana,Jennifer wee,Karubandika..the works!

Kumbuka there was You Asked For It! as well. Those were the good old honest days when men were men and women were women not like today u can't be 100% sure who's what. What will our tois talk about - play station and Surakitabu (facebook)?
