...that was for the FA cup (John Barnes at Liverpool and England). And for some time KBC brought Italian Football when Maradona used to play for Napoli,Marco van Basten and Ruud Gullit at AC Milan.

The Roger Milla 1990 World Cup that ended with Maradona crying and Germany (Lothar Mattheus,Pierre Litsbarski,Jurgen Kohler,Jurgen Klinsmann,...) lifting the cup.

Around this time final there were Saba Saba riots in Kenya,Bush 1 was invading Iraq.

At this time my family moved to the slopes and new adventures for me started... kuhura bira, gitimbo (wooden go-cart).

One day we built a cart for our gacau (calf),the construction lasted 1 whole day with 4 of us (3 bros and dad) working. The gacau broke the contraption in less than a minute of galloping.

@Gmimo,Football made in Germany, where i always seemed to support 'that team in red'(meaning a colour tv,which by then ungekuwa nayo, ulikuwa Okonkwo mbaya). And the radio football commentators.....na mpira umekuwa mwingi ukatoka nje.....A time when any team meeting Kenya in football used to freak out silly.

Remember Lutumba Menga?? We need peeps like him to slap sense into Kenyan football now. Those were the days.

And the village dance! i miss dem days we could hear a sound 'boom'' boom' music 5km away, the speakers were often placed on top of a pot half filled with water to act as an amplifier and we could all walk by foot 10pm at night, the music room was always a hut where at some point water was sprinkled to cool down the dust,of course the break dances made the floors crack some naughty boys used to sprinkle some pepper on the floor, when the dust rose hehehe i will explain that later

Ehh bana ja-kom

At the 1990 africa cup of nations Kenya drew 0-0 with Senegal; similar result with cameroon. though we never made it to the knock out round those days the cup final used to feature 8 teams only. Henry Motego,Micky Weche,Tobias Ochola,Alfayo Odongo in 1992.

Tulikuwa juu mbaya!!

1987 all africa games hapa nairobi; Harambee ilikuwa final na Egypt having beaten Cameroon kwa semi.

halafu ile mwaka ya track suit za white. 10 years of nyayo era and 25 years anniversary for kenya. (truly an 'Amezidi' spectacle celebrating siku ya kuzaliwa, for those who know what i mean)

Funny stuff, seems every Skerian came from central.

Who remembers the polythene soccer balls that we used to stitch together using manila 'Ojwala'. Those days, making ojwala was the only chance one had of owning a football. Usually, the owner of the ojwala assumed the role of the defacto referee and still played.

I also remember at one time one of my cousins came to stay with us from the bundu's. Now he was bright and got good grades for all subjects except Swahili. When my dad asked him why he performed so poorly,he said he had no idea swahili was so difficult as he thot a swahili test involved just identifying s swahili word,e,g

Maliza sentensi; Mtu - anakuja,

then the choices would be like a) huyu b) hawa c) huyo d) hao.

He told us that for him all those swahili words looked perfect, and he could not pick the correct one out of the 4. What he had expected was s swahili word, then throw in a vernacular choice and an english choice so he can identify the swahili word.

We laughed at him for a week. Till today whenever my siz sees that rela of mine, she fast laughs.

Before the teleprompters were 'invented',VoK newscasters would cram several paragraphs of the news and recite them looking steadily at the camera.

BTW: I hear that VoK had bought the gadgets five years before the launch of KTN,but they didn't know what to do with them until KTN started using them...!!!!
