How much will EABL pay for 51% of SBL... that is the question!

Why do most deals of this nature fail? It seems EABL has too much cash and just has to piss if off...but I expect a lot of excitement especially from institutional investors
The utimate goal of investing is to buy low sell high;if we re-write this core equation in psychology terms it becomes buy fear sell greed.

Yes that right there is the big question... and I hope Tanzanians don't start rejecting it like we did Castle because it was 'not Kenyan'. This could be payback time if we're not careful. Anyway, all the best EABL.

BBI will solve it

1) SBL also sells Serengeti brand of beer. It is quite good & popular in North Tanzania though not in S.tz
2) SBL also brews Stella Artois for Tz market
3) Tusker has a market in Kenya & this should grow. Hopefully.
4) SBL will distribute liquors for EABL

Castle did not acquire EABL but came and put its plant in Kenya as a competitor EABL has entered into TZ through this acquisition..(Just like Vodapone is in Kenya through Safaricom) I guess EABL will leverage their growth and distribution of their products...

I expect the price to soar...

I got a sneaky feeling EABL will struggle with beer in TZ, but could surprise on the spirits end. I surely hope they are not going there to force Tusker down the throats of wandugu. I reckon they would do well if they sent some of the Uganda beers there which wandugu haven't experienced locally. Tusker will not hack much there it's a symbol of kenyanism to the wandugu.

The Wandugu hate Kenyans lakini they need us... We supply fuel to N.tz + many items too... Let them drink Tusker...

For Kenyan Men & their girlfriends, World cup equals football plus more beer consumption. Then, there is our unique ways of doing things.... kama unataka kuona world cup nunua pombe ama uondoke!!! During the world cup fiesta we drunk lots of beer and most of the games were played in the month of june before EABL closed its books. So, improved figures should be expected when EABL announces its end of the year results this month.

The acquisition of a controlling stake at Serengeti Breweries will add the momentum of growth in the medium to long term.

@BGL,

I dont think the contributions of sales during World Cup period will contribute significantly to EABL's bottomline. May be a jump of 5% compared to last year's monthly sales.

Generally, the months of June-July due to the low temperatures do not attract many beer drinkers.

EABL has called for an EGM on Oct 21,2010 @ 1400hrs. The agenda is to seek shareholder approval for acquisition of 51% of issued share capital of Serengeti Breweries Ltd. CMA has given the green light for the acquisition.

Ahhem! With Tanzania Fair Competition Commission requiring EABL to sell 10% of TBL at 550/= a share, for nationalistic purposes; translated to about Kes 30.00 per share....

I see that EABL is interested in getting at least x3 the amount or Kes 97/=. Interesting to see TBL has Kes 16.2 EPS and growing sales revenue/net income by about 15% annually.

EABL on the other hand, tough...
Oh Wazua gurus, any anticipated change in direction of EABL shares in the near term?

If you want to be poor and transmit the poverty to several generations you need to adopt a Tanzanian mindset of kaka/dada.

A senior government official told this newspaper that EABL wants to offload the shares at TBL’s current trading price, arguing that the shares are undervalued by between 20 and 30 per cent. TBL is trading at Tsh1,780 ($1.19).

FCC wanted the brewer to offload its 10 per cent stake in TBL through an IPO which was Tsh550 ($0.36) a share to give more chance for the Tanzanians to own the company.

So according to EABL, TBL's market price is undervalued [Foreigners including Kenyans can't buy TBL shares] but is willing to take market price YET the FCC wants them to sell at 1/3 the price??? d'oh! Shame on you d'oh! Shame on you
