The draft does not OUTLAW gay marriages...just gives every Kenyan a RIGHT to get married to a person of the opposite sex...what if you choose not to take up that right...what then happens? what are your options?

This new constitution always trying to spell toooo many things out; too much unnecessary angst!
Sad

The position in the current constitution leaves no ambiguity; why even attempt to talk about right to family or gay rights? _______ (silence). Come to think of it, it's the same approach used with abortion ________ (silence).
And we've lived almost 50 years with it without this much grief.

pretty soon the euphoria will die down and people will see the document for what it really is - the handiwork of the devil, fashioned in the pits of hell.

NO PERSON SHALL BE ALLOWED TO MARRY A PERSON OF THE SAME SEX

CoE version/proposed constitution:

EVERY ADULT HAS THE RIGHT TO MARRY A PERSON OF THE OPPOSITE SEX

What was the need to make this change? Ruto might just be right here, "It allows gay marriages" d'oh!

What do you guys think?

marriage is based on generally acceptable views/values of the society, I am not sure even if the constitution allowed it, 'Paul' can comfortably introduce 'Peter' his 'wife' in a harambe in Kenya today.

and in any case gay couples are there anyway... so what is the issue?

This is not an issue...to me...EVERY ADULT HAS THE RIGHT TO MARRY A PERSON OF THE OPPOSITE SEX....so same sex marriages are not recognised ....

Standing at the middle of a busy highway is not disallowed in the draft.....what happens if one decides to exercise the 'right' to stand in the middle of a busy highway since its not disallowed...

Please lets stop being petty ....reading between the lines for things that are not there....and
follow the Priestly advise...put off the fire ....kill the rat latter

http://www.wazua.com/for...aspx?g=posts&t=7841

the real issue is that the business community sees the Draft as good...which means more investors... employment opportunities ....more foreign exchange....economic prosperity....political stability ....

http://www.kam.co.ke/?itemId=17&newsId=369

Masukuma you said you are in Pakistan....you may not understand the kind of anxiety that we go through here....due to political risk/uncertaininity ...social disturbances by unemployed youth ....from the current bad laws

soon we'll hear that the constitution does not prohibit farting in public hence should be rejected, lest somebody decides to exercise his freedom.Shame on you

Whoossh! I was once driving a lady caucasian friend espousing my wisdom about life. No no no, you should have seen me, impressive!

Quite the young wonder kid, talking about my life, my beliefs, our culture, our work ethic as a people, our open heartedness. And yes, she seemed impressed, she'd experienced all of Kenya.

So I went on to gays, and how in every society, even the Roman empire with their killing of twins, there have been necessary evils in society. Like a firebrand peacher, I denounced the homosexuals, "I mean how could they!!!"

In a quiet voice she answered, "I have some friends who are gay; some of them are quite nice." So 'I threw her out of my car' (feign)

It afterwards occured to me:
We all look down on land grabbers and prostitutes. Can you imagine how much worse they were looked down upon 2,000 years ago.
If I walked in Judea and I stood watching Jesus 'shamelessly' eating and mixing with tax collectors and allowing a prostitute to use expensive oil to clean his feet with her hair... 'Unbelievable, get out of here!'

Sorry, I digress. My point is we need to vote Yes/No for the constitution, but there's no need to look for 'devils/abortionists/gays' everywhere, assuming they're hiding behind this clause, that clause, in every clause. It only betrays our prejudice.

You know most of the people who are against this Draft base their arguments on presumptions rather than facts.

There is nowhere in the draft allowing gay marriages and since its not even mentioned people jump into unfounded conclusion that its allowed.

The argument on abortion,Land and devolution if you listen carefully its based on 'what if's' or presumption as if those who are supporting the draft are aliens or wont live in the same country.

Please someone educate me in simple layman's language how this allows gay marriages.

If there is one thing I have come to know in my short time on earth is that the people who make the most noise about gays are gayer than gay. google gay haters and gay evangelicals....

ok we know you won't vote for the constitution. You don't have to tire us with shady, uneducated and seriously flawed arguments to make your point.

We are all tired. Let's just go vote Aug.4th and this will be behind us.

I am pretty sure that come August 5th I won't see men with dildos in the streets or women aborting as they shop.Just because of a new constitution.
