Odd lots can be sold together with the rest of the shares but you'll need to quote a shilling less the average mkt price. The problem is that they take a bit of some time but eventually they get sold.Speak to your respective brokers on how to dispose them.

Not a bad idea for a blue chip stock. You can also accumulate the cheques and re-validate when its a good amount.

So if this odd lots are cheaper than the average, am I able to buy for portifolio built up? Especially for the shares I plan for longterm investment? Is that somebody I have to ask my broker about?

MBiaLoss, most Kenyans (me included) are too stubborn to sell at below market price. But would you blame us really? Free annual reports for life and free goodies if we wish at the AGMs. Heaven

mBiaLoss, such shares come about as a result of bonuses e.g. if you had 300 nic shares. A 1 for 10 bonus is given. This adds you 30 shares giving you a grand total of 330 shares (I've always wanted to say grand totalsmile ) You then sell 300 shares after the bonus books closure (since you can only sell in lots of 100) Thus leaving you with 30 shares, not to mention a lifetime supply of financial reports. If another 1 for 10 bonus is given, you'll have 33 shar es

So, with your 33 shares, they declare a 1 for 10, you will be left with 36.3 shares. Can it happen?

By the way, half of my jubilee holdings, and it is substantial has been built from buying in the old lots board. This is a vital lesson I learnt from going to the trading floor before introduction of CDS and ATS.

yes u can sell the odd lot, but blindly. i meant we should be able to see what is being offered in the odd lots boards. in India and other jurisdictions, there are brokers or people whose only job is to buy odd lots at lower prices and aggregate them to sell for a higher price. that is a job ill love to do!

I once did that for Centum using the CFC online system. But as you mention, I was flying blind. It was only for a couple of hundred shares though.

My take is that easy trading of 'odd lots' should be facilited AT MARKET PRICE. Hii mambo ya multiples of 100 iishe. That is inefficiency.

Yes, even online has the option, but the problem is that you cannot see the prices on offer, you will just fly blind and depend on guess work. I have been buying KenRe odd shares @17.10 and 17.00 for 2 weeks now in lots of 99. I am not sure whether there have been offers with less prices or not. That is the major problem.

The odd lots appear from bonuses. I faced the same problem but I learned here how to deal with them. Instead of selling, I have been buying more...
