...and while at it, @mozerat, CEO position is not only about share value. There are other factors such as value and supply chain. Your measly shares will breed if opex/capex decision go to Khoisan providers.

Somebody here said that the nationality of new CEO is irrelevant.

I strongly disagree.

Appointing Bob Call y more (sic), with all due respect to his unknown self, is a serious demotivator to Kenyan mothers.

Hawawezi zaa a CEO of most profitable company in Kenya?

Just curious - Telecom firms in Kenya never appoint locals at the helm. Remember Vandecrook of Kencell, Rehe Meza (or something like that) of Zain; Bharti already appointed a barabarache something for Africa, Yu has Chandrakabrabrabra... and Telcom: a 'pitre' replaced another 'pitre'.

We may not care about all those, but with Safaricom, hiyo ni yetu. We ought to feel thoroughly scandalized.

I disagree... why? Coz the #1 goal is to PROTECT the profit/value... That is what Vodafone wants. They are in it for the money. Well, so am I.

Where there is competence e.g. Mahinda at EABL... it has never been an issue... the cream rises to the top! Or Adan @ BBK Or my favorite JM @ Equity...

At that level, the question is who is the BEST for the job not whether he/she is Kenyan...

Many Kenyan CEOs are lousy as shit...

KPC lips from scam to scam
KCB has under-performed its peers since Terry left & MOO moved in
BOC has floundered

Lemme hypothesize what will happen....

Bob C takes helm...investors are a bit doubtful and a slight sell off ensues....

The he goes on a PR campaign speaking with his polished english and heavy vocab...talks big words like diversification, product innovation,expansion,4G,WIMAX etc....

All of a sudden the institutional investors are highly impressed...they say he is visionary, hes young(er),more vibrant, more in-tune with modern business....

Safcon share soars to 7-8bob on this new optimism...

...Years pass, then it becomes evident, that hes just ordinary..share price stagnates, competition gets more market share...Safcom looses its lustre...

...then people discover that a brilliant CEO is as rare as a gem.

NB:This is just an imagination of high improbability...lol!
The utimate goal of investing is to buy low sell high;if we re-write this core equation in psychology terms it becomes buy fear sell greed.

I totally disagree with you. Value and supply chain are for parastatals and government institutions to worry about.
..and unlike Kengen, Safaricom is not a utility company where such worries even warrant Govt intervention (capping of unit price to KPLC)..

As a shareholder I have only two things to worry about:
- current earnings
- company sustainability for future earnings
Surely you don't expect Safaricom to be treated like the NSSF where no one can be sure who is supposed to be running it. Kwani you didn't learn from the HFCK/Equity saga..

Bharti will land big on this land, MJ knows that and he quits while still scom is at the helm. He knows safcom will lose a substantial share of the market and thats why he's quiting now.

Its seems everyone is forgetting or maybe haven't heard that MJ will stay on the board of directors for 2 more years... I can never underestimate a company like vodafone when it comes to corporate governance

If Celtel or zain or Bharti wants to generate cool profits, Kenya is a market to avoid. Why font they consult with Yu and Orange? By the time they rebrand and we get used to the name, they will be looking for a buyer.

The market share for Safaricom will reduce somewhat but not by a margin that warrants us to start freaking out.
Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.
