Safaricom Reverse Split (10:1)
Can anyone suggest that Safaricom does a reverse split on their shares. This way if they do a 10:1 and whoever has 1000 shares can have 100 at Ksh.28. This will reduce the craze buying that is making the damn stock stay at ksh2.80 making it very unattractive to people who make this stocks move up.

This matter has been discussed exhaustively here...check the archives...some call it stock consolidation..... In a nut-shell; the conclusion was that such action would have little effect on the stock....with sh2,800 today I can get 1,000 shares...consolidate the by factor of ten and I can still get 100 shares....which is NOT an odd lot...thus 'small' will still get a chance to play the market. Problem with SCOM (if indeed it is a problem!!!!!) is not the number of shares, but the number of shareholders-well over 500,000,most of them newcomers who expected windfalls and bought with borrowed money. Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

This share affected the NSE and NASI. the change is price either direction ia material. We needed fewer shares.

@Goals,the NSE @) index is NOT capitalisation-weighted. All constituent counters (big or small) carry equal weight! A 10% change in SCOM (Mkt Cap = sh110bn) for example, has equal effect to a 10% change in Sasini (Mkt Cap = sh1.2bn). I repeat: there are just too many shareholders who purchased with borrowed money.....once they are exhausted, the price will pick up again...assuming other fundametals remain strong.... Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Well... the idiots were told that 5/- was overdoing it... ati... 40 billion shares! It should have been around 20/- (to reduce the shares on offer)... also 100 shares is only 280/- (the minimum commission is 100/-) Greedy when others are fearful,Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase WB Greedy when others are fearful. 'Can anyone suggest that Safaricom does a reverse split on their shares.' Exactly my sentimnts, reverse split is imperative ( min 20:1,or better 100:1)also,my observation is that SafariCom is making a bundle which is not bing reflected in the share price ...

@pm; those are serious charges. Any proof? Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

whether a reverse split is done,it doesnt make either the company or the investor better or worse off, simply a game of the mind to change the perception in the minds of the investors not to view this as a penny stock.
i concur with mukiha that if you borrowed money 2buy this stock, uza ndio ulipe deni n then the stock will pick up centeris paribus.
do you think the current price incorporates the info abt their results announcement given that MJ gave a +ive nod jana during the opening of their grand call centre?

@ pm I'm with you on that one. i can't give any evidence but like I have said here on SK before, the price is not 'reflective' of the money these guys are making.
I actually smell something fishy.

More than a decade later, no one knows the fair price of Safaricom The value of Safaricom depends on future growth projections - if they do well in Ethiopia, a PE of 15 and above is not unreasonable. And if they are able to grow their EPS to above Kes 2 (in the short term) because of the expansion - then any price below 30 per share is a fair price for a very solid business. Mark you the PE and EPS projections I have made are very modest. Safaricom has for a long time traded with a PE of above 20 and who knows just how much profit could grow in the Ethiopian market. If EPS were 3 instead and PE rose back to 20, the share price would be 60. Time will tell.

Let's wait and see The current share price of Safaricom Plc (SCOM) is KES 23.50. SCOM closed its last trading day (Tuesday, June 21, 2022) at 24.00 KES per share on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), recording a 1.4% drop from its previous closing price of 24.35 KES. Safaricom began the year with a share price of 37.95 KES but has since lost 36.8% off that price valuation, ranking it 60th on the NSE in terms of year-to-date performance. Shareholders’ worries are compounded by the fact that SCOM has lost 10% of the stock’s value from May 23rd to date. We will sight KES 19 by Wednesday next week. That should be the bottom as per exchange bar prophecies HF 90,000 ABP 3.83; KQ 414,100 ABP 7.92; MTN 23,800 ABP 6.45
