What I mean is that their income potential is much more assured than their capital growth. Just in case that nuance was lost on you.

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is set to earn a Sh5.9 million dividend from its investment in MTN Uganda after the telco declared a final payout equivalent to Sh0.149 per share.

The State-controlled pension fund acquired 39.18 million shares in the telecommunications firm last year when it went public through an initial public offering (IPO).
NSSF,made the investment through asset manager Sanlam.

6mn is peanuts for NSSF UG but hopefully the dividend is much better for 2022 given the full year of ownership.

It's NSSF Kenya
Peanuts for NSSF KE too but hopefully the returns in the future increase multifold.

Plus the better dividend in 2022 will translate to a better share price.Currently it's trading 10% below it's IPO price.

These days there are no guarantees.
BAT is struggling to get above 500 with a superb 53.50 DPS.
Even SCBK is around 142 with a 19/- DPS.

SCBK and BAT have dropped in price more than their Final Dividend

I bought SCBK on the last day they were cum div (11th March) at 130.75 per share. Final div was 14 bob. So until they go below 116.75, I am still the better for buying them cum div rather than ex div

Am struggling to understand this post. I suspect you meant pre-dividend since the last day it traded cum-dividend was in April @144/= per share.

You are right. I bought on the last Friday before results were announced (the following Tue, 14th March) knowing full well prices would jump to incorporate the dividend. Most of Q1 2022, SCBK traded in the 130s range. But after results were announced, jumped to 140s.

Sylvia Mulinge becomes the new MTN Uganda CEO effective 1 September 2022.
She is leaving Safaricom due to differences with the current CEO,whom they couldn't get along.

In 2019 the UG govt deported four expatriate executives and banned indefinitely from stepping back foot in UG. They included the CEO (Belgian), GM Mobile Finance Services (Italian), GM Sales and Distribution (Rwandese) & CMO (French).

After intervention from MTN Group, M7 pardoned the CEO and he was allowed to return.

It was the time when Kagame and M7 were at loggerheads. The Rwandese and French executives were accused of spying on behalf of a foreign country by intercepting communication between UG govt officials. The Italian was accused of funding youths allied to Bobi Wine to forment regime change. The trio were swiftly and effectively deported by intelligence operatives.

Later it was alleged that the CEO flew out of the country and had a meeting with the deported executives. This led to him being also deported despite being married to a Ugandan. Only the CEO was pardoned after the MTN Group CEO intervened.
