I think restart and load in 'safe mode' - you need to be ready to press F8 during boot - or just press it anyway repeatedly...select 'safe mode' then log in and go to uninstall - uninstall both first,then load the one you want to use...hope it works

@ djinn

in another thread you mentioned using Avira & Comodo for firewall,right?

how can i turn off the automatic updates in the Avira (since i don't want it to be downloading without my permission) as for comodo do i have to uninstall the default firewall or what happens...?

The easiest i found was to go to program files and deleting the folder of the Antivirus you dont want by Shift+Delete because normal unistallation either refuses or leaves some files behind which still cause conflicts.

Becoming number one is easier than remaining number one

@ Djinn...

Rebooting the machine in safe mode and attempting to uninstall one of the antivirus application wont work. This is because the Windows Installer isnt loaded when a machine starts in safe mode; therefore installation/uninstallation cannot be done.

You need to prevent one/all of the antivirus applications from starting up when you reboot your pc to prevent/avoid the protocol/system stability issues you are experiencing.

To do this.....launch the computer in safe mode as suggested earlier,Go to start the run and type msconfig. Then remove the antivirus entries so as to prevent automatic startup when the machine starts up.

Reboot the machine normally and proceed on to Control Panel and uninstal the antivirus application you would like to get rid of;

Try and see how it goes.

Well some programs,especially anti-virus have this nasty habit of refusing to be uninstalled,or leaving behind some registry files,which in turn conflict with another similar program,like a new anti-virus.

I had a similar problem with AVG and norton..the things left registry files behind and so I could install kaspersky.

Get yourself a program called Revo Uninstaller...it cleans cleaner than omo with powerfoam. Its free on the net. it goes deeper when uninstalling and removes all associated registry files (coz these are the ones which cause lotsa conflicts),but not without askn u first..

It also has a start-up option,no difficult windows commands,you just uncheck the programs you dont wish to start during boot...easy.

forget windows uninstaller,that thing is stone age
