KPLC - Great results 2010

Sheep - Forex adjustment is mainly a pass-thru for KPLC. It collects on behalf of KenGen, IPPs, etc... Same for fuel costs... 1H unit sales were restricted by lack of electricity to sell... There was limited rationing for all users... Hopefully, with rain & increased co-generation (Mumias) that is not a factor in 2H... A better economy in 2010 should see unit sales rise (more hydro expected in 2010)... Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

sheep wrote:After Gova sells 87% of its preference shares things might not be so rosy,why is Gova bailing out? If they believed in KPLC's future growth they wouldn't sell.Wise to sell just before restructuring fiasco. @sheep why do you think GOK is bailing out??? they do believe in KPLC's future and thats why they are converting the prefs into ordinary shares... GOK currently owns about 40% of KPLC, after the restructuring they will own a little more than 50%... how is that bailing out?? i think you should read more about the restructuring before calling it a fiasco... @sheep - Like @guru said... Stop spreading false rumors... Whereas the Preference Shares are redeemable (at KPLC option)... GoK is converting to Ordinary Shares which are NOT redeemable at KPLC's option... That sounds like a vote of confidence that GoK will give up the preferred dividend for the uncertainty of ordinary dividends... Greedy when others are fearful. I think KPLC is going to break out this week... I expect demand to start flowing in as foreign investors start looking at it anew... Due to the politics involved & the aversion to politics, most buyers are local in KPLC... but it is a matter of time before others get interested... Interim div 3/- (2/-) & final [expected] 7/- (6/-) is a 6%+ yield... I prefer a slow but steady rise rather than huge jumps... Watch this space! Greedy when others are fearful. Great results from KPLC did not even move the price... It was 150/- before the announcement & slightly higher 155/- afterwards...
@VVS its up to 182 now... i think further gains are being capped because of uncertainty about restructuring... but i expect the announcement at the end of this week or next week... only then shall we see the real price movement... Mark 12:29 Deuteronomy 4:16

While the focus is on KenolKobil or Equity... folks have forgotten that EOY for KPLC was 30 June so results should be out by (latest) 31 Oct 2010... Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

They failed to keep their word.The restructuring details were to be made in the first quarter this year.A good counter but i was not ready to be caught in the unknown,so i will wait until they make public the conversion ratios.

People... It is not KPLC but the GoK that has to determine what they want! As a shareholder I will REFUSE anything less than 300/- as the conversion price! The 'delay' will help us coz KPLC will show better profits making it harder for GoK to screw us with a Conversion Price of 200/-... GoK has to propose a conversion price, then KPLC has to come to the shareholders (Yes, the minority shareholders too)... Greedy when others are fearful. VVS, qw has 'misplaced' the link to the results. He'll post it as soon as he finds it (maybe in little more than a month or 2. Hey, I'm only guessing here) Anyway, I have never been in doubt that the KPLC share is a great investment. With Kenya continuing its rapid industrialisation, more power is needed. Plus as incomes rise, more residential homes will get connected. KPLC was supposed to slightly beat its target of 200,000 homes connected. But I'm still going to wait for the completion of the restructuring. By the way, with the EAC Customs union in place, can KPLC 'export' electricity to, say Tanzania? Or is it already exporting? Anyone? GOD BLESS YOUR LIFE

@ youcanstopusnow, What KPLC needs to do first is to import power from south African countries. There are plans to put up a grid line from the south through TZ and finally to Kenya. You can call it the "TEAMS of energy" Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.

@Gatheuzi,
Option for more import point more to the north than the south. South is barely meeting its demand and Zambia too has seen increasing demands due to copper. Ethiopia is the country to provide most of the imports.The transmission lines will be owned, not by KPLC but by the new transmission company

Importing from "Southern Africa" is unlikely unless the dams/turbines along Zambezi/Victoria Falls are re-engineered. Zambia needs more electricity S.Africa needs more electricity Zimbabwe has HUGE potential but it will grow after mugabe dies Tanzania has huge potential but they hate Kenya Uganda has its own needs unless they can really boost production Kenya is on its own... May be Tz hates Kenyans but economics r in their favour they will not mind Ethiopia is a potential source BUT they want to dam River Omo which would destroy the beautiful Jade Sea Kenya needs to develop Geothermal Power (asap) + Nuclear Power in the next 10-20 years...
