the FDA in the US has authorized these vehicles to go back to their typical purpose of hauling food — even if blood or other bodily fluids leaked inside, in some cases.

We should not copy the US - they are a failure on this matter!

All this may be true....or not.

But if you are going to make what seems like a reasonable argument, please include all the possible parameters

Kenyans are stupid
Kenyans have been scared to not test

most important

Maybe, just maybe the MOH is working within it's current limitations, including you personally one day saying here on wazua that medics should not be funded

Maybe, we went wrong with devolution of health care....

many many reasons

I on my part believe in the technical team in this pandemic issue.

Using the resources they have to maximum results. We know we can't test 100k a day like the US. So we rely on contact tracing which has worked before even for Ebola.

I will tell you without a shadow of a doubt. What the East African countries have done will be tought in Medical School on how to deal with pandemics.

We have an opposite scenario just 200km away in TZ. Trust me, you do not want to be in TZ right now.

Celebrate our MOH team from our nurses to the policy makers. Only TZ knows what kind of shit we would be right now.

This tragic video drama on how to run an East African country pandemic is about to enter an interesting episode tomorrow, Monday, 18 May 2020.

Stay tuned.

Treasury Pushes Health Workers’ Demand For Fat Perks To Counties

SATURDAY MAY 16 2020

Health workers’ quest for better allowances hangs in the balance after county governments were told to reorganize their budgets to raise Sh2.356 billion required to implement the welfare and insurance package

This comes after Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, in a letter to Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairperson Lyn Mengich, told counties to carry their own crosses.

“County governments should be requested to reorganise their respective budgets and provide for the Covid-19 medical emergency allowance for their staff as per your approval,” Mr Yatani says in the May 5 letter.

STRIKE

The Treasury’s position will likely exacerbate the situation if health workers in public facilities down their tools on Monday, as they have threatened, over poor working conditions and lack of equipment.

The planned strike will come amid the Covid-19 pandemic, which has ravaged the global economy and decimated lives, demoralizing health workers.

But despite that, the strike should be the last thing to happen.

this is one of those things one hopes the mainline narrative is wrong (I look around but cannot see how but wish we are wrong). Coz Maghufuli being right makes us the largest bunch of cowards that walk the earth... if the mainline is right... Tanzanians will undergo lots and lots of troubles and they will run here. It happened in Iran/Afghanistan.

If we are right - Tanzanians will flee here and it will not be nice for us. I hope akina @whiteowl, @Mpobiz, @kaka2za and @sqft are right... I don't see how they are right but I hope they are!

Count me out. As much as I question some narratives about the disease, I prefer to error on the side of caution.
80% of cases recover without any need for medication, infact they may not even know they are infected so Magufuli's son recovery should not be the basis for reopening schools.

Having said that,I am still baffled why bodies are not dropping in Yaoundé and Douala.

Its amazing how he doesnt even get it while he's contradicting himself

He says that he recalled doctors who self isolated when they came into contact with patients who had corona. But goes ahead to tell us how his child isolated and went on some vitamin c and steam inhalation therapy to get well. SMH. Another genius like "Drump"

My new philosophical view on this is that we are 6 Months into the Pandemic that is playing out everywhere and we are all seeing part of a complex phenomenon. Millions of people in 188 countries. All these are people of different health postures... these have been defined by their culture, genes, age, and environment. the 30,000 bases of AGCU are working on millions of these humans and what we see is just an aspect of it. Human behavior plays a big role. Maybe people in Yaoundé and Douala have been given leeway to go back to bars (but they must wear masks) and they are still cautious. It's yet another layer of complexity (Sweden style). This thing is like that story of the blindfolded people touching an elephant and being asked to describe what they think the elephant is. the Americans grabbed the ear, the Italians the tusk - they are no wrong but they are telling us part of the story.

While black people have lots of biological advantages - synthesis of Vitamin D is not one of them. Why? Generally - 47% of older people in northern countries are Vitamin D deficient during winter - this number shoots to 84% of older African American men and women. Perhaps this may be that the reason 'seasonal flu' in the US is prevalent in Winter is for the same reason - not everyone is synthesizing Vitamin D (just a theory...). When they compared the cases of people who got infected in a place like Florida vs Northern States like Illinois - Florida has fewer dead people coz of Covid. Florida also has lots more older people and it seems that sitting in the sun may help. Perhaps the lockdowns i.e. keeping people indoors where they cannot synthesize the Vitamin is counterproductive in that way. What needs to be explored is how this observation explains the cases in Australia (it was summer... do they all like staying indoors during the heat of winter?), Ecuador, Brazil are more pronounced in people who are indoors more? Old people and Invalids for example? Young children who play outside in school may fare better because of the mandatory breaks and games times compared to 'hard-working' office people. There are close to 44 countries with 10 active cases or less and most of them are island nations (fish diets and lots of sunshine).

How would this affect us? I reckon most of the people that live by the coasts and eat fish or expose themselves to lots of uninterrupted sunlight would fare better than those who don't. Women in Islamic societies that cover themselves from head to toe would not synthesize the vitamin D. Well - if you work in an office then from the office - you get into a car and never really stay out in the sun - you may not be synthesizing enough Vitamin D regardless of how much sun is out there. we are going into a 'cold' season - most people will be covered kabisa, will stay indoors and my not synthesize enough vitamin D. The West African diet is considered one of the best diets on the planet (rich with fish)... could that explain their low mortality? My advice is while engaging in the well-understood measures - Social Distancing and Avoiding Crowds, Sanitizing Surfaces, Wearing Masks, Staying at home when you can - add a good diet and swallow multi-vitamin tablets. Encourage good diets and vitamin supplements to be taken by your relatives.

@mpobiz, I go where the evidence takes me. On the removal of the text that is offending you - the truth is while everyone is entitled to their own set of opinions - no one is entitled to their own set of facts. This also applied to me by the way smile.
It's a well-documented fact that black people in the north are dying way more (up to 4 times more than white people). that's a well-documented fact.

@murchr, I don't have a straight answer for brazil - I honestly can't figure it out but I have some observations that may be relevant. is's a factor of statistics. While Vitamin D raises the immunity of a person to fight AGAINST the disease it's not a vaccine nor does it confer immunity. The evidence from COVID-19 patients extracted from an observational study from three South Asian hospitals shows us that the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was much higher among those with severe COVID illness compared with those with mild illness. In fact, there was a 7.94 times higher risk of having severe illness among those who entered with vitamin D deficiency compared with those who had sufficient vitamin D levels. So there is a LOWER risk of having severe illness not an eradication. If a population is reckless and a huge number of people who have no vitamin D deficiency get the infection at once even if the percentage (%) of those who get severe cases is relatively small when thrown against large infected population the outcome is substantial. There also other factors such as people who spend time indoors (office people) who live in areas where vitamin D synthesis would be easy but don't present themselves to it. That's my reasoning! People in Brazil have a bad mindset about the disease - led from the front by the president and possibly millions of them have been infected and the sizable number of deaths are results of the factors above.

You are now slipping back inside the box.
Who has presented you with the facts?
Did you know that the government confirmed that all Kenyans who died in Europe and America's had other health issues.
Based on that alone I can say that most Africans adversely affected by the desease it's not because of your vitamin D theory, but because those blacks suffer from other things that suppress their immunity.
Politics is just things to keep the people divided and foolish and put your trust in men and none of them can do nothing for you...

@Prophet Wukan,where are you?

We are over 60 days now,the prophesy has not been fulfilled.

I think we can now review the status and restart our economic activities.By 6th June it will be 90 days and with the current trend we may have another 1000 positive cases and maybe another 60 deaths.

Time to think co-existence measures as we adhere to MOah guidelines.

While acknowledging that Correlation doesn't mean Causality - there is a plausible explanation (or at most one of the 'factors') why Black People seem to be dying more from this disease in the higher latitude countries. Vitamin D or at least the deficiency of it. It's a proven fact that Vitamin D really assists in the body fighting respiratory diseases. While black people have lots of biological advantages - synthesis of Vitamin D is not one of them. Why? Melanin! our dark skin (an adaptation to prevent us from dying from skin cancers) prevents us from generating Vitamin D in large quantities when in high latitude countries.

I have read very carefully. This is nice. You have started thinking outside the box.
(The box created by Europeans that you muafrica can't see or think for him/ her self)
There is only one thing you need to do. Edit and remove the part in red about black man. That's a useless statement.

I presume that you know how to read... I wrote 'Black People'.
Some Kenyans happen to be 'Black People'. Some Africans happen to be Black People. Not All Black People are Africans. Some are Americans, UK, Melanesia. The observation was made on people who have Melanin (Black Skins) not the passports they carry. It also stated that south asians (Wahindi wa south india and Sri Lanka) who have Melanin kama sisi were also more likely to die compared to the white people.

I have been busy with my architect. I want to relocate from Nairobi to my farm in Nakuru over the long term. The Covid containment measures have induced some real trauma about staying in Nairobi over the long-term.

It is likely that covid will be around for another 2 years with this suppression strategy. It will take time before the co-existence is established. We are still on the journey.

In the meantime please find time to bask in the sun and absorb vitamin D.
