The use of masks has been highlighted as a reason why Asia slowed the rate of infection. As WHO and US/UK discounted the use of masks, people in S.Korea Hongkong were busy purchasing the same.

Am now not looking at the no of deaths so much as the number of those recovered. UK is raising eye brows

Me thinks after this weekend if numbers remain the way they are(more so in terms of deaths),we can start thinking on a cautious back to work formula.

That baffling thing whatever it is will continue protecting us.

Remember some Doomsday guys had predicted 5000 by mid April,well..........we continue washing hands, social distancing and staying at home and now let's wear masks.

@tycho,

I have been reading your numerous posts on this thread, and not understanding what exactly you are trying to tell us.

So, I wholeheartedly support your above suggestion.
Stop wasting time here, and instead work on your paper.

As you say, a paper may be what we need now.

Thank you and good luck.

@tycho You can watch this clip I think it will help in your research paper

One thing that is standing out is the faster the tests, the better the end results - Patients are isolated and treated instead of mingling with people as they wait for the results.

In the US, a test is taking 5-14 days before one gets their result back. Meanwhile, the person is still in this house transmitting the disease on whoever he comes across

So a global pandemic sweeping throughout the world has now been reduced to what is happening in black ghettos in US cities? Should kenya also release its data and say whites are more likely to be infected coz they make up only 0.1% of the population but account for 50% of the cases?

What they should be telling us is that communicable diseases such as corona, flu etc, are more likely to spread at higher rates where people live in higher density areas such as inner cities, than in the outer suburbs and rural areas. This is true whether you live in japan, china, italy, UK, Kenya etc. The higher rates for blacks and ethnic minorities in the US is only because they are more likely to be living in the inner city than in low density suburbs or rural areas. It has nothing to do with being blackamerican by race. Anyone living in a high rise apartment or ghetto anywhere in the world from madrid, NY, london, mumbai, Tokyo, wuhan to nairobi is more likely to be infected than someone living isolated in an outer suburb or rural area. #Epidemiology 101.

May be what those blacks on TV should be advocating for is land/housing reform since for many years blacks could not own land (or homes) in rural areas or suburbs due to discrimination and that is how they ended up in the crowded inner cities.

Public Health 101: If a group of people is getting sick/dying disproportionately to their numbers in the population, study the problem, figure out why and direct resources to that group, hence the documentation of numbers by race..

You obviously understand the housing/land part of systemic racism but cannot seem to connect it to other aspects of life (education, jobs, health etc). They are all interconnected. There is a book called Medical Apartheid that covers the abuses white America has perpetrated on Black people. It includes denial of treatment, being experimented on by scientists, assumptions that black people do not feel pain etc etc. It would not surprise me if we hear Black patients are being denied access to ventilators and critical care when they present with CV.

As for discussing Black people in the USA I hope we continue to do it cuz, they are our people, and NOTHING makes you understand white supremacy better than understanding the history/experiences of Black people in America…Nothing.

True cases will go up but not in the crazy levels that were being projected.Like has been pointed out by Masukuma nobody can claim experience in this pandemic therefore even our guys at MOH are using models to project what can happen.

Am comforted by the fact that DG Kilifi had contact with his boss Kilifi Governor and the Governor did not get it.Meaning coming into contact with a carrier does not mean you automatically get it.Am also comforted by the fact that with close to 5000 tests,179 are what turned positive.

Now go and comfort families of those who have died in England, Scotland and wales that they shouldn't worry much because black Americans in US ghettos have a proportionally higher death rate.

I am also of the view that randomly testing people is a waste of resources. Especially when test kits have proven to be useless, and at best only 50% accurate.

https://www.dailymail.co...ial-twitter_dailymailUK

Number of sick patients in hospitals is the most accurate data. Testing is not immunization and therefore resources are better spent attending to those who turn up in hospitals seeking treatment.

Its not about random testing, they are testing anyone who feels that they are exhibiting symptoms.

Just the same way most Kenyans present themselves with diarrhea in hospital - you are tested to determine if it is food poisoning, cholera dysentery malaria or typhoid. Don't assume those numbers are just from randomization.

If you feel you have a cough that is not going away plus an on and off fever...you should be tested

It think the notion that being in contact with an infected person automatically means that they will pass the disease is misguided by the narratives out there.
We need to get back to the basics of this disease and forget things like spraying the streets or mass sanitizers (cattle dips for people) that have very doubtful science behind them.

Remember the disease is spread when you intake the virues via your mouth, nose and eyes. How does it get there? mostly through the hands and that is why people are asked to wash their hands (not touch your face - if you can). How does it get to the hands? someone sneezes or coughs into the hands.

The second means is spread through the air in short distances (coughing, sneezing or 'speaking'). but ideally, these would be in symptomatic cases.
Touching surfaces that have been exposed to the viruses and then TOUCHING YOUR FACE. Will lead to a possible infection.

The average transmission rate of Covid-19 is such that 1 infected person infects between 2 and 3 people. Things chickenpox and measles have this transmission rate of between 10-12 and 12–18 respectively.
the dangerous thing about this disease is when the person becomes infectious - the asymptomatic transmissions and mild cases transmissions happen to be the problem. the other diseases usually transmit when the patient is symptomatic.

Correlation does not mean causation! Remember the structure of society in the east and the west is different? goverments also acted faster in the east. South Korea, Taiwan and the US all reported the first case on the same day. Mass testing earlier in the infection also played a role.

I agree that masks are likely a FACTOR but not the only thing that determined the different tragectories.
