An old Airbus plane

Out of curiosity, are these things on sale? and how much would a 737 or A320 shell cost?

for re-purposing into a restaurant

They ferry cargo

Not practical:

1. Plane would have to be refitted for cargo. This means remove seats, overhead carriers, windows. Add rails for pallet containers.

2. Most jambojet planes are custom made for passengers and are not fit for cargo. Cargo versions need higher wings, more engine power and more fuel capacity.

3. There is no business. Cargo business is horticultural produce to Europe and consumer products from Europe and Asia. These markets have groumd to an halt.

I read that food shipments may be restarted given the pilots/crew can do a same-day turnaround with safety precautions. 2 sets of pilots given the 8 hour flights each way. EU/UK depends on food from abroad.

KCAA can authorise Jambo to operate cargo as long as the cargo can fit on a passenger seat and is strapped Ethiopian are operating that way at the moment with their widebodies. Containers in the belly and small weights on seats

KCAA and the plane manufacturer can authorise Jambo to operate cargo as long as the cargo can fit on a passenger seat and is strapped Ethiopian are operating that way at the moment with their widebodies. Containers in the belly and small weights on seats. You can also remove seats on the Q400 like the Miraa guys

Yes. It can be done with almost every aircraft type. Austrian recently used a B777-200 to ferry medical supplies from China.

Flydubai using several B737-800 to ferry cargo with seats not even removed. KQ need to do this with their B737-800 but do not think there is anyone who can go the extra mile in the management team.

So many other airlines are utilising their idle fleet for cargo right now.

#2 point is not necessary in the middle of the crisis . Higher wings, more engine power and more fuel capacity do not matter. What is relevant is weight capacity of the carrier. A passenger plane can carry cargo as long as is within its weight limit.
