Martha Karua is following Kibaki's footsteps.
He resigned from govt once upon a time. Went through difficult times in opposition then he became president.
There is a chance she will become president one day.

Martha's resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. 2006 she blocked the appointment of some judges under the guise that one them was not clean only to emerge later she had a grudge withone of the appointees. MK then obliged.
Fast forward, after defending Kibaki in the 2008 post election squabbles she thought she would be appointed the deputy PM but poltics being a game of numbers MK so it fit to appoint UK instead. She then teamed up with her two b/fs(Kamana and Mla mamba) who misled her to believe she could be Kenya's next president. Realising she has no following, she went rubbishing every one from ruto, wako, gicheru which begged the question, politics being the art of buliding bridges with your enemies, what was her 2012 strategy for her ill perceived dream?
Its a pity she has decided to resign at this trying moment for the coalition. Being a saddist she thinks MK will loose sleep for that. MK has been around in politics for about half a century and her resignation wont shake any hair on his head! Given her arrogance, know it all attitude and the need to seek heroism she has ended her illustrous career by stroke of her own pen. I wish her all the best in her political oblivion and requset MK to appoint a more abled person to the position preferably a man for a change.

Looking at Karua's strategy to become president, one wonders where on earth she will get the votes. I mean,if all she thinks of political networks and alliances that will bring in votes are the Mungatana's and Kamama's of this world, then i think she could be imbibing banned substances. She clearly needs to remail relevant upto 2012 if she can realistically take a stab at the presidency, and i dont see how she will manage that. Seek ye first the finacial kingdom, and all else shall be added unto you. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

@moibutu
who are you and what do you stand for? Martha is one person who stands by her principles, whether people agree with her or not. when she stood her ground then,it was right at that time.
when she stands her ground now,it is still right. question is,would you have the kind of guts she has? my guess; you fall far short from it.
she is my constituent leader, that's why we elect her,cos we know the substance she is made of. she does not need to be liked by you or all Kenyans, but we like her and that’s what counts. she does not need to be president in 2012,if being president means undermining her principles. she'd rather keep her integrity than lead with a bunch of cowards and double minded, greedy leaders who amount to nothing but grand confusion.

@Moibutu Good analysis man. But the bit on who to be appointed, mmmmm. Why such a dim view of our ladies. We have some very capable ladies. It's not about gender,it's learning to be a team player and not biting the hand that feeds you. Despite her illustrative resume and career,Karua scored poorly on those two fronts. She also seemed to grossly over estimate her political credentials. Talk of 'throwing her non existent weight around',familiar, huh. B.timer Dunia ni msongamano..

@ Mkristo,When you say Martha has left a 'bunch of cowards and double minded leaders' l thought you were discribing Martha herself. She started throwing tantrums once MK denied her a chance to join the top echelon of the 'bunch of cowards' as deputy PM.
Martha's resignation is just a quest to be hero. Unfortunately for her Kenyans are clever and cannot fall into her silly tricks.Resignation out of priciple would have been the best thing to do. But which principles does she stand for? Name one and l will show you a liar.
Instead of rubbishing her collegues and throwing mud to the likes of Gicheru she should be busy giving Kenyans a road map on new constitution and working with MK to ensure the implementation of agenda 4.
Like them or hate them,Moi's political students the likes of saitoti, kalonzo and UK seems to be the only survivers of the Kenya's murky political waters. Martha should learn from the trio that for one to survive in Kenya's politics, patience, loyalty to the boss and keeping your mouth shut are the key to survival.
Well,l suggest the somber minded safina MP abdulkir to be appoined for the seat.

Karua's strategy will be to provide the people of central kenya a moral highground out of the current sh*thole they are trapped in with the Kibaki fiasco. Other communities will not trust UK or Saitoti so she feels that if she plays victim alongside other kenyans, she may be accepted. I can actually see her winning the after river Chania GEMA vote while UK keeps the kiambu,Nyandarua,RV one. Perfect split right down the middle. Not sure which way the Meru's will go. Oops,Saitoti will get kajiado North I guess if you can't win with facts, you can always pen bile-laced,xenophobic rants to distract everyone. Ok Moi
I will not fully object your views. You must, though, agree with me on one thing... I think,by Martha's resignation,we've lost a golden opportunity to have gotten the work of the new constitution done, and done well, and at the right time.
She said it clearly, she was frustrated. By who? by people who want to manipulate the writing of the new constitution to suit their selfish ambitions, such as we have seen in parliament. Her principle? She cant watch Kenyans being deceived that work on the new constitution is being carried out when she knows very well it is a lie.
You may not see her point now,but wait until they get somebody else on that seat, and you will perhaps appreciate why she took the move. May be then, you will give her some credit.
You never know what you have until you loose it,but they also say that you never know what you are missing until you loose what you have. I cannot tell you right now which one of this statement applies to Martha, but time will tell.
