I'm not sure Mukundi ever made it to the finish. Patrick Njiru was the main hope of Kenyans. I remember the 1st time he actually finished the rally. It was a huge deal. Indigenous Kenyans rarely finished the rally.

On the other hand we could claim Shekhar Mehta and be happy that he left Uganda to come and represent us smile smile

Yes Mukundi was the pick up guy. David Anunda came much later and back in the village we never recognised the Asians and Wazungus as 'Kenyans'

Thuku finished the rally in 1971. It took 16 years before another indigenous Kenyan finished. That was Njiru
