Very unfortunate!!!

Kenyans love arguing a lot.

You have seen them at the airport. Saying that they won't sign etc etc. Don't forget, that some of those screaming at that airport definitely have the virus.

Others are saying that Kenyans are too poor.

I can assure you, when your neighbours start falling left right and center like in Italy, you will not need the gov't to tell you to chill at home.

Let's do that right thing before we are forced to do the right thing.

How comes nobody is reporting about the 96 people who were in contact with one of the victims and were released from quarantine after testing negative?
This is Africa! If it could have been anywhere else that could be a tsunami.

If you care to listen to Mutahi's statements he's mentioning the number of those tested and those released from testing negative days later.

That is happening elsewhere too. Invest in bundles and listen to other country leaders as well.

The matter of experts and lockdowns has been exaggerated and perhaps taken to pseudo science levels. China has done well in lockdowns because her political and military institutions were already prone to such action, and there are reports of aggressive testing.

S Korea has shown that lockdowns are not necessary. Political and operating conditions in this country worked with active testing to contain the disease.

Other countries are likely to struggle if they will mimic these two countries blindly. The situation is turning out to be a catch 22 when much can be done without necessarily being copycats and plunging into trouble as we are hastening to do.

Corona is the real Reggae... not stopping anytime soon.

So this thing started in China and it took 3 months to get resolved (China is recording fewer new cases through local transmission daily. No new case in Wuhan has been reported - so let's say it took slightly over 3 Months for the whole debacle to go silent.
Europe started it's 'reggae' end of Jan and now Italy is at the height of its cases as Spain and UK accelerate - yes... it maybe a month or 5 weeks before Italy gets to silence new infections.

I am curious about Iran - it has gone silent
The US will be the next crescendo - I see tweets of people recovering in their homes and so US figures like everywhere else are way under-reported. The beat will move there.

Poor countries are next after this - Africa, India and wartorn countries that are reporting no figures yet like South Sudan and Libya(no government machinery). Lots of people running away from Iran back to Afghanistan and taking the disease there. Will the measures we have in place stop this 'reggae' on its tracks - let's see.

Not all governments are structured the same way or have the same level of power to make people do what they want them to do. In West Africa - Sierra Leone has stopped all flights and instituted a state of national emergency... the number of cases there? 0!

Stopping international flights sure does slow down this thing immensely.

With our last flight tonight, we are a bit late.

By the way Wuhan is still under lockdown, it is the Hubei (Gichagi part of the province) thats about to lift its lockdown.

It will take awhile to get over this thing.

I see Trumps mixed messages (back to business by Easter) f***ing up the worlds effort to deal with this thing.

Half of Britain is already infected

Quote:
The coronavirus could have infected as much as half of the population of the United Kingdom, according to researchers at the University of Oxford - as the official death toll jumps a record 87 in one day to 422 and confirmed cases leap by 1,427.

The new model from Oxford University suggests the virus was circulating in the UK by mid-January, around two weeks before the first reported case and a month before the first reported death.

This means it could have had enough time to have spread widely, with many Britons acquiring immunity. Sunetra Gupta, a professor of theoretical epidemiology who led the study, said testing was needed to assess the theory.

‘We need immediately to begin large-scale serological surveys – antibody testing – to assess what stage of the epidemic we are in now,’ she said.

Iran will peak next month if the stats are reliable. Any restrictions there will lower from May - June 2020.

Kenya may peak in June - July, and any restrictions are likely to end in October.

If true, MOH needs to consider other serious concerns like the spiking of new HIV cases and non communicable diseases. Teenage pregnancies are also likely to spike.

I wouldn't like to simulate the matter any further...

Like with everything else - each coin has two sides. There are people who are stuck in really bad places right now. Just because you tell people to stay where they are - does not automatically mean they are able to stay where they are or turn around and come with 48 hours notice. Even when they arrive here it becomes tough as I have seen the people who came in yesterday have had to pay between 110k and 140k to be quarantined for 14 days. They stay in hotels where they are asked to fix tea for themselves. They feel like they committed crimes.

Though you seem to be vague in your reply , it's good you have acknowledged that the rate of infection is far much lower here

I am thinking this could have happened in Kenya too.

Consider this:-We started getting abit serious about Corona on 13th March when the first case was reported.

COVID was reported in China as early as Dec 2019.People have gone to China and back, guests have come into Kenya without restrictions. Its over 60days since Jan and we dont have a major outbreak.

Infact we are hearing of this cases because tunamulika sana.Maybe tuligonjeka na tukapona.

Think we hope that in this initial stages we have been able to contain it and are testing extensively particularly in the coast region. Social distancing is the best way for us to reduce the spread and work from home for those that can but how do our brothers who live hand to mouth make it? Support from the government??

I keep on saying this but some people here just keep on counting the dead in other coutries and calling it research and being mundu githomo sana. By now we should be seeing scores of people with the said servere symptoms in our hospitals.
In my opinion the viral load necessary to infect us is either high or the weather is on our side. Or maybe other unknown factors. But we are not all the same. Let's be vigilant and all government measures must be followed.
