8 additional people test positive-all imported cases who came through JKIA from 4th to 17th

Tracing 363 persons!!🙆🏾‍♂

That ban on international flights has been long overdue

A ban would not be intelligent, being prepared is key.

Chinese planes were banned then?

Those 363 people went to church, malls weddings etc and they may be spreading,

Its time those containers start moving

Air travel has been the biggest catalyst of new infections worldwide and even here. Our 8 new cases are all imported via our main airport

Allowing flights in while urging Kenya residents to wash their hands, keep minimum distance etc is akin to spraying an insecticide while keeping the doors and windows of your house open!

We are late in banning these flights, though not too late

There is only one effective method that has worked.

Test and quarantine.

As you can see we are still scared and praying. We shall remain in this state until, we test and quarantine. Data never lies.

We could have got away with stopping international flights. But statistically at 15 and they have been around for 2 weeks is wishful thinking.

Test and quarantine.

Have you been tested and quarantined, @ alma?

I have been quarantined for 9 days. I have not been tested.

but even know what the solution is.

It now depends on what you are willing to sacrifice to fix the problem.

I will continue to self quarantine until I'm told we are safe by the gov't.

This is just passing wind. Though the most vulnerable are at risk. I fear for them. Case study Italy. The old and the terminally ill. Those are the ones to stay at home. And if you have such people in your life just keep off from them. Stay away from them.

Alma, considering the security issues that are likely to arise, I don't know how you're likely to come out of quarantine. It's very dicey. For example, self imposed quarantines have their costs - sacrifice - while government imposed quarantines may end up in violent resistance due to hunger and cramped living conditions servicing 'social distancing'.

In England, military planners have been called in to figure out how to feed the hungry. And the government has some serious money to back up these operations. Governments without such muscle may find it rough. They may end up collaborating with the virus.

Kenya may easily be in such a category in the event of a protracted lockdown. We need more innovation here. With 86% in the informal sector and most people living hand to mouth, it may be insensitive to speak of 'sacrifice' on many who will have big trouble either way.

We may need a civilian led kitty and a quickly crafted civilian - military cooperation strategy to shore up supplies and order systems around the country. Corvid is a complex problem requiring multidimensional thinking.

Your show of ignorance is pathetic, use those few bundles to educate yourself

The US has reported 13K new cases in 1 day, 12K in New York. Patient 0 being that lawyer who used the subway. Ofcourse there are others who travelled in and spread it but that case stood out.
Italy 651 new deaths better than yesterday but with 5k new cases, they are definitely not off the woods yet

Let me explain clearly.

This virus is not here to negotiate.

I have heard all the excuses Kenyans like making. eg. the social economic yada yada yada. oh sijui oh sijui odm.

Listen, it is not negotiating.

It will kill in 14 days. 4 days of a sore throat, then it enters your lungs and we can now pray.

It's up to you, forget about Kenyans. You.

As I'm writing this Angela Merkel is in self quarantine.

I don't trust Kenyans to be wise, so I shall keep away from as many of them as I can. I may not be successful but I sure will try.

If I get it, I have proof in heaven that I tried.

As for me caring if Kenyans can afford to be without a job for a day or a week, that is really not my problem.

Sometimes you have to be wise to understand that even in Italy, people are dying and getting cremated and their family has no idea.

Wakati ndio huu.

In other words. I have no doubt that there shall be some Africans who start shouting and screaming that they can't eat.

So they shall go out marching and making noise. This virus has a short shelf life. They can go march, get it and in 14 days are done.

Wale wamejinchunga will come out on the other side and figure out how to continue.

In Europe, they are trying to save their societies and heritage.

If we have some fools in Africa that think they can survive this not being united, shauri yao...14 days my brasa.

Some of us are patient.

I am talking about selfish me and selfish you. Only we may be in polar opposites. For me, considering my environment, it makes sense to take care that my neighbour doesn't attack me for the little I may have in stock.

Your neighbor only has 4 days to finish you.

If you care so much about the mkokoteni driver then wait 14 days and take his job and take care of his family. If the f***er does not take care of himself, this virus will not.

You guys are joking.

Please look and find what the Chinese had to do at Wuhan.

They decided to work as one. All of them. Rich and poor. All of them to a man. Just to get some sleep in a city of 50 million people.

Here you are telling me to feel sorry for fools who want to go sell tomatoes on the ground ati coz they are special. Tycho, this thing doesn't care.

You catch it and there are two options. Your immune system fights it and you survive, OR... your immune system fails and you die.

It doesn't care.

In the meantime, the economy will die.

I know my chances. They are very low to survive. So yes, I will try all I can to protect myself from stupid Kenyans who think I care if they can make a living or not. Or who think their pastor talks to Jesus or not.

I need to survive now...So that I can take care of this Kenya later.

Hapa Tycho, I promise you. 99% of wazuans will look at you as you try to fight a virus with wise sayings and logical thinking.

Quarantine or.....it's your choice.

My dear bro.. there is a big difference between geting infected, recovering and dying from this virus.ask your self this questions and Google for answers => What is the ratio of the patients who have recovered and those who have died ? What is the demography of the people who have recovered vis a vis the persons who have died. why are you only looking at things in 2D? In 3D there is also a high recovery rate.
How comes since the first case that was reported in rongai and in relation with the video you have played up there we only have 15 cases so far and most of them are imported cases?
I read somehere that the situation in China was aggravated by the winter situation there. here the heat is just unbearable even for the virus.
In my opinion this self quarantine indoors is just a European thing because indoors is the only warm place. Here anybody walking around in this heat has a better chance of very quickly beating the virus.
That is how I have been using my bundles to do some research unlike you instead of counting the sick and the dead.

Granted, you may be correct and all may need to follow your logic.

Does anyone have details on how the tests and the two week quarantines are programmed or distributed? Or rather how does one really do the two?

Alma is just doing one of the two activities so far - self quarantine - but no test as yet...

Not everyone is being tested, and surely there's enough material on the internet

I won't lie that I can understand how this response fits in with Alma's solution.

Nevertheless, a search on 'testing and quarantine program, Kenya, Covid-19' reveals different and irrelevant links.

Alma is likely to have a more than 14 day quarantine - waiting for government directives: so neither the testing or quarantine idea seems to be cogent.

I hope I can figure out what you're saying.

Another thing I can't be certain about is if we have enough testing kits. I don't know what you make of it. But what are the probabilities that Kenya has enough testing kits to emulate a country like South Korea? When I read that Israelis and Americans are searching for these kits all over, then surely someone is losing out on supplies. Who?

Then if we study the graphs of the global powers we realize that we have like 4-5 months of agony. Germany is holding out good but a flatter normal also means longer especially economic recovery periods. China has managed to contain the virus so far, but since other countries are lagging in recovery, what can it do, except wait while giving support to a wide field. And besides, there could be a resurgence. We cannot be confident of a clearly defined economic and political environment for over 5 months, and that is too long a siege. We should not take that risk.

My suggestion is that we:

1. Carry out a diplomatic initiative with our neighbouring countries to intensify on trade in food and basic commodities, and encourage subsistence farming even in urban centers

2. Declare war on the virus and deploy our disciplined forces, volunteer or otherwise to be the main supply conduits across borders, and to engage them in civilian cooperation regarding internal distribution till epidemic containment

3. Offer corporations incentive to adopt virtual working environments for their employees

4. Offer special care and attention to population segments that are particularly vulnerable to Covid infection

5. Encourage essential work under stringent conditions for all able bodied persons likely to have mild symptoms.

6. Identify and promote new adaptive behavior through cultural action

7. Encourage more use of e-commerce and offer a robust security and support system

I believe these measures will help us solve the threat posed by this virus in a way that is comprehensive and economical while minimizing its negative effects to the best of our capacity.
