No he is not! he has been busy running the country "like a business"... governments are not businesses!! How

1) The Trump administration fired the U.S. pandemic response team in 2018 to cut costs. WTF!!
2) He refused test kits from WHO and insisted on his country's that didn't work.
3) He has been busy firing people who knew what to do
Quote:
The Obama administration walked incoming Trump administration officials through a hypothetical scenario in which a pandemic worse than the 1918 Spanish flu shut down cities like Seoul and London in early 2017.

During the briefing, Trump administration officials were told such a pandemic would likely lead to circumstances such as shortages of ventilators and that a coordinated national response would be “paramount,” according to documents obtained by the publication.

Of the Trump administration officials present during the meeting, about 66 percent no longer serve in the White House,.

Quote:

We were warned in 2017, a week before inauguration day, when Lisa Monaco, Barack Obama’s outgoing homeland-security adviser, gathered with Donald Trump’s incoming national-security officials and conducted an exercise modeled on the administration’s experiences with outbreaks of swine flu, Ebola, and Zika. The simulation explored how the U.S. government should respond to a flu pandemic that halts international travel, upends global supply chains, tanks the stock market, and burdens health-care systems—all with a vaccine many months from materializing. “The nightmare scenario for us, and frankly to any public-health expert that you would talk to, has always been a new strain of flu or a respiratory illness because of how much easier it is to spread” relative to other pandemic diseases that aren’t airborne,

The US is 3rd on the list of affected countries and it will not be surprising if in 2-3 weeks time it tops this list. Why?

So what I have learned so far
1) coronaviruses are a family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases like MERS, SARS and COVID-19.
2) there are coronaviruses that have not 'jumped' species and are mainly still in bats. bats being bats are everywhere! they are the animals with the second largest number of species and live everywhere...including kenya where a study shows talks about the existence of Novel SARS-like and Other Coronaviruses in Bats living in Kenya.
4) While it takes a bit of bad luck to get an outbreak started - the next coronavirus outbreak can be from anywhere - Kenya's bats have 41 distinct coronaviruses so it's important to have this problem looked at in the long term.
5) a 1991 study in the journal of virology outlined how Chloroquine (amongst others) slowed down the growth of coronaviruses by raising the PH of the cells. apparently coronaviruses need acidic environments to bind to cell receptors.
6) ibuprofen has been in the news lately as one of the drugs to avoid if you are exhibiting C-19 symptoms. why? it helps them multiply. it also has a low PH.

Conclusion - anything that raises the PH of the body may be effective in stopping the reproduction of coronaviruses in human cells. this is not to mean that eating alkaline foods will translate to raising the PH of your tissues (as digestion may just neutralize it). Perhaps pharmacists and biochemists can tell us what other drugs lower the PH of blood and cell tissues.

If there's a 1991 study why is Faucci not enthusiastic about Chloroquin?

Why did MERS "disappear"?

Well Faucci is a scientist - he has to test it, collect data and the check if there is no adverse effects in patients with coronavirus. He is a man of the scientific process... not feelings or reading it on the internet. He is doing it in a way he can account for. As soon as there are no adverse effects - it's likely that he will proceed.

Please guys, you know drumpf is a snake oil salesman. He'll say anything to make himself chief medical doctor in a loony bin.

Quote:
Chloroquine was among the first group of therapies Chinese scientists identified as being effective in curbing the new coronavirus. Clinical trials on about 130 patients demonstrated the drug’s ability to reduce the severity of the illness and speed up virus clearance, according to China’s Ministry of Sciences and Technology.

Chroloquine phosphate was officially recommended on Feb. 19 in the Covid-19 treatment guidelines published by China’s National Health Commission

Part 2

Quote:
China’s recommendation to use chloroquine in treatment was quickly followed by a warning.

Two days after the treatment guideline update, health authorities in Hubei province -- China’s worst-hit region where the outbreak started and which accounted for majority of its over 80,000 patients -- asked hospitals to closely watch for, and immediately report, any adverse side effects of chloroquine phosphate

Quote:
A woman in Wuhan proved how lethal chloroquine can be when it’s taken beyond the recommended dose. On Feb. 25, Shanghai-based The Paper reported that she took 1.8 grams of the drug she ordered online after suspecting she had the coronavirus. She did not, but the drug caused her to develop malignant cardiac arrhythmic, which can cause sudden death, and she was admitted to the intensive care unit.

As his guy for coronavirus said in his face. That he may be wrong or right. Let the science prove it.

Reports from Nigeria tell of people having severe reactions after they ran to buy chloroquin because Trump said so. In Kenya, we should be wiser. There's a reason why we have reduced it's use even for malaria.

This idea of witch doctors running countries should be highly discouraged.

With all due respect @Alma, I think the message here is not that Chloroquine does not work (Trump notwithstanding), but rather that you should not take it without the supervision of a health care provider. Chloroquine was downgraded as a malaria med because it can mess up the rhythm of the heart and result in sudden death. Docs know how to monitor patients for this, hence the recommendation to take it only under the supervision of a medic.

As Masukuma points out, Fauci is acting like a scientists should. On the other hand, compassionate use of meds before all the science is in is as old as medicine. It takes 10+ years to scientifically investigate a drug. When people are dying, you will do anything to save lives..

I did not say that it doesn't work. I said beware of witch doctors with miracle cures.

You as a medic would know the danger of giving the populace the false sense of belief that there's a cure out there.

What Dummy tramp is doing is basically killing people.

1. He says it's an American cure
2. He hails it as a major breakthrough
3. He calls it a game changer
4. He says its available, "immeadiately"

Some dummys in Nigeria then get chlroquin poisoning.

What are the side effects of taking chloroquin with this disease? Is there a danger that this virus will mutate into a more dangerous version?

Who knows if its a cure. But I will wait until real clinical trials are done by real doctors not by witch doctor in chief drumpf.

Agreed. A sober approach with caution is needed. But people are dying so if a drug is said to be working, it should be put to test. Spain has joined Italy's league. Terrible

Those 363 people went to church, malls weddings etc and they may be spreading,

How many respiratory equipment is available in Kenya. It is eyebrow raising that they have to fly that person in Msambweni to Nairobi...why not Mombasa?

Air travel has been the biggest catalyst of new infections worldwide and even here. Our 8 new cases are all imported via our main airport

Allowing flights in while urging Kenya residents to wash their hands, keep minimum distance etc is akin to spraying an insecticide while keeping the doors and windows of your house open!

We are late in banning these flights, though not too late

It's already here dude, the majority of those people are Kenyan returnees not even 1 Chinese. This and other diseases are bound to spread anyhow people are social beings and that is one thing you can't stop. It should have been wise for the government to be ready as soon as China announced that it's spreading from human to human.

Look at the bright side, the health issues in the country will now be highlighted, it's time we started looking at home grown solutions now every country is grappling with its issues.

There is only one effective method that has worked.

Test and quarantine.

As you can see we are still scared and praying. We shall remain in this state until, we test and quarantine. Data never lies.

We could have got away with stopping international flights. But statistically at 15 and they have been around for 2 weeks is wishful thinking.
