Mnatakanga nini lakini?

Uhuru's legacy, especially in infrastructure, is unrivalled, ata kibaki hakaribii quarter. That's all that matters. The blind ones will only realize this once he finishes his reign.

If a president can maintain the three most important pillars of National Power.......
1. Security (during Kibaki's era we were a warzone).
2. Politico-diplomatic (country very quiet & calm).
3. Economy (During Kibaki's tenure, Muranga, parts of Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Bungoma, coast, Nyanza etc were dead economically due to rampant insecurity).

.......and go further and tackle the basics of development.......
1. Infrastructure (Energy, Water, Transport-roads/ports/airports/rail).
2. Fight high-level corruption.

........to me, that's a highly successful president.

Uhuru's LEGACY is UNASSAILABLE!!!

Hapo kwa security I fully agree

Was in Lamu County some time back & locals are all praises for the security provided huko after shabaab attacks. Complaints of failed govt ni za watu wa Nairobi.

Revisionism at its best. Lest you have forgotten,Kibaki became president after 24 years of KANU misrule which had nurtured criminal outfits. It took guts to eliminate Mungiki for example whose mutation from a youth movement to a killer gang is attributed to those in power today.

Quote:
There is no distinction between personal commercial interests and the public interest in the conduct of national affairs and I believe this conflict-of-interest gene is deeply embedded in the Kenyatta family DNA.

This is the reason why, despite all the hullabaloo about “not stopping the reggae” when bulldozers were knocking down illegally constructed properties in Nairobi, this captivating initiative died a quick death.

The failure to distinguish between personal/political and national interests is now popularly referred to as “state capture”, where governance institutions are “repurposed” to serve these personalised interests.

In Kenya’s case, however, “state capture” was built into the very design of Imperial British East Africa ((IBEA), the forerunner of what was to become Kenya; the entire political ecosystem is designed to serve the corrupt purposes of the elite.

The many massive scandals are now having macroeconomic consequences and have served to increase despondency and anger, particularly among the youth.

It is clear, given Jubilee’s approach since 2013, that

managing the Kenyatta succession—fixing an increasingly broken economy,

soothing our polarised politics in time for the next general election,

dealing with corruption comprehensively enough that Kenyatta can walk into the sunset with something of a legacy

makes for too many governance balls in the air for even the best of political jugglers.

Much as Kenyatta is an experienced and skilful political performer, some balls are definitely going to drop.

Interestingly, given the divisions that appeared within the Jubilee alliance almost from the beginning, Kenyatta has been forced to hand over political problems to bureaucrats.

(He is most partial to securocrats and intelligence officers.)

Moreover, although the BBI initiative emerged out of a handshake between two politicians, as the BBI team set about its work, it became clear that the bureaucrats were managing the process on a day-to-day basis—a reading of the BBI report leaves one with this impression.

But the conundrum in our kind of system is that bureaucrats will first act to preserve themselves, especially after all the looting that has happened and which implicates almost every minister and cabinet secretary.

As a senior politician explained it to me as he tried to enlighten me on all the infighting and scandals within Jubilee, “The most powerful bureaucrats are doing the scheming for the Kenyatta succession, but bureaucrats are like ticks on a cow’s back—they hang on for dear life even if the cow is nearing its end.”

I am not disappointed.
The guy had nothing to offer except a good second name.

I will have however be happy if upon his exit he breaks up the Gema hegemony. I have always maintained that communities should vote based on local interests. For example Kikuyus in say Burnt Forest should vote with Kaleos and not follow Kiambu or Nyeri.

He has a legacy only that he was scatter-brained with projects all over.
positive legacy
1. Electricity penetration is above 70% compared to 23% in sub-sahara africa
2. Lamu port-I think it will be game changer in future
3. Demographics-made life hard and no. of kids per household is now dropping to 3. Effects will be seen from 2030s in more savings and lower interest rates
4. Drugs war-stopped kenya from becoming a narco state

Negatives
1. SGR-wasted capital on a hopeless white elephant
2. Nairobi-totally failed leadership
3. Killed the stock market momentum forcing investors back to agric and real estate
4. Mombasa-made it ghost town

Really? 30 freight trains and 4 passenger trains per day isn't something to call a white elephant. Imagine the savings on road maintenance, reduced road accidents, diesel pollution etc.

The naivasha sgr cargo ICD is also operational reducing the mess at mai mahiu road.

He did the same for Kanu and NARC and still ended nowhere.

LAMU Port is still Kibaki's legacy, sustained by Kasuku. When UK came in he diverted most of the funds to SGR, i think museveni blackmailed him. If he was really serious about Lamu port he would have made sure S.Sudan and Central African republic are stable.

President appoints UoN VC, his education Cabinet revokes it two weeks later! Clueless government.

Word in the street is that it was realized that Prof Kiama is sympathetic to Tanga Tanga.

I can bet that you can hardly differentiate the two or know the scientific principles behind them. But these two can be used effectively. Of course other inputs will also be needed.

How could the council appoint VC without awaiting concurrence of the Govt? Did some serious money change hands

Another street is talking of the medical cover tender that is supposed to be given to Amarco but then again AMARCO does not do health insurance so it could be Idle talk on the 38th day of January.
