Last I remember is the board, the governor and the taskforce meeting at Kilimo house and pledging to work together. Not that I expect much. That Oparanya revival plan can't hold any water if it's personal without the national government. Today I think all he did was embaras himself on live TV. “You can get in way more trouble with a good idea than a bad idea, because you forget that the good idea has limits.” - Ben Graham

Reviving Mumias means business for some cartels have to be dismantled. Sugar importation is a lucrative business for the political elite. The task force also suggested that the county should use part of its revenue to buy shares of the ailing Mumias Sugar Company, as it moves towards full control. Sugar millers brace for Uganda competition https://www.businessdail...4476-w1lx54z/index.html Kenya currently imports 30,000 tonnes of sugar from Uganda annually, but Kampala wants to enhance the volumes to 90,000 tonnes following surplus in production. Uganda is also seeking to export sugar cane. Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

Mumias to be suspended from trading in the NSE. I wondered long ago and NSE ought to have suspended this one eons ago. Kayhara and the likes would not be shitting bricks now. On another note, I think the move by KCB is dumb and ill informed. The receiver manager has zero capacity to resume operations and even if he had, he would still require capital in the region of Kshs 7b to start any meaningful operations. Dead move.
