This story was on some newspaper [Monday 28th June 2010 - I think]. The story is simple. Men in central province are drinking TOO much - local brews and bottled Naivasha "wines" no less!! They've totally lost focus - which is something you'd expect of someone whose always drank by 9:00 am. Actually, they have a simple motto:
Avoid hangovers, stay drank! Worse still, I'm made to understand that the brews are "anti-viagras" - apparently in some villages it would be a mini-miracle to see a baby.
How accurate is this story? Believe me it's very accurate. I have visited some villages in central Kenya and the situation is horrible!!
But having said that, is it really an issue that someone from western [or any other area] marries someone from central [or any other area]. Should we even be discussing this? This is Kenya. Marry the person you fancy. Heck, marry from China or wherever - if that is where you've found love.
What we should be discussing is the alcoholism problem in Central province and Kenya as a whole. This other manenos should just serve as evidence of the existence of the problem - nothing more!
