In 2015, the lender partly financed its acquisition of an initial 79 per cent stake in DRC’s ProCredit Bank by issuing 70.8 million of its shares to some of the subsidiary’s owners, who ended up with a 1.8 per cent stake in the Kenyan multinational.
The DRC deal has proved to be profitable, with the subsidiary now operating as Equity Bank Congo reporting the largest pre-tax profit outside Kenya of Sh1.35 billion in the year ended December.

It’s a crappy deal. These banks are just average players in their respective markets with some doing badly

Equity was probably just looking for an in using an existing licensee as it did in DRC.
Then invest money and go digital using Equitel. Perhaps use Vodacom/M-Pesa as a partner too.Is digital succeeding in other countries like it has done in kenya
Digital banking is becoming, at different speeds, the norm the world over.
TZ will be merged. What was the performance in Tz last year. Will the acquisition make any difference or sink it further in losses. It depends on the acquisition price of the TZ business. The fixed costs, after acquisition costs, of the combined entity may not rise much.
RW will be merged. BPR is a mass-market bank in RW and Equity has experience with bottom of the pyramid lending. What is the market share of BPR in Rwanda. What synergy is equity benefitting
Google for market share. Equity picks up lot of customers who can be transitioned to the digital platform at a low cost/customer. Low marginal fixed costs given Equity already has platforms eg Equitel, mKey, M-Kesho in place.
Equity is going where few KE banks are venturing. No immediate cash impact given it is a share swap.
There will be capital injections ATMA may buy more shares in EGH for cash which could be used to bolster the new subsidiaries. Just as Equity did in UG and DRC, there will be a period of consolidation and learning about the new markets. Benefits will show up from 2021 onwards.

I don't see ATMA buying more shares in EGH.On the contrary I see when market conditions are right they will dispose off that stake.

Wake up mzee
Equitel failed, failed and was a big failure.

This is why they have decided to partner again with safaricom. It was a very wrong move to take on safaricom in the first place. But they have learnt their lessons.

what does a commercial representative office mean

Okay this is what i get from google

A representative office is an office established by a company or a legal entity to conduct marketing and other non-transactional operations, generally in a foreign country where a branch office or subsidiary is not warranted.

What are the prospects of starting operations soon in Ethiopia?

Still buying more of these share over the last couple of months. Been buying at between 38/= and 40/=. I have almost doubled my holding in the stock. Still remaining with more to buy of the next couple of weeks to hit my record.

I would have preferred 35/= - 36/= but hey, it is not about timing the market. It is about the time in the market. And I really needed to buy a huge chunk to start playing timing games!

Remaining lot hopefully I buy at a lower price. Probably at a higher one given the demand and supply patterns.

Less than 3%, some people are just there to look at KQ and Equity shares waiting for them to fall so that they comment. Incidentally all shares are falling including safcom

Applause Applause Applause Equity is the bank with the best potential of growth outside of Kenya. The DRC + Atlas Mara acquisition will allow for Pan-Southern-African coverage.
