@rasilio
There is currently no company that offers DRIPs in Kenya because the CMA keeps on lagging its tail when it comes to updating the regulations. However, with companies like Safaricom asking questions with their couple hundred thousand shareholders who get less than 100/= in dividends a year, the situation may change soon. The other things the CMA needs to work on quickly are share buybacks (would help companies like EABL and Barclays alot), reverse splits (Safaricom anyone), better disclosure of executive holdings & not just members of the board, actual realization of REITs (were approved sometime back but as of now no company or bond has listed) and short selling (I know its a longshot but hey lets include it).

With regards to unlisted companies, there has been talk of opening an OTC market for a while now but nothing has happened yet given that they are still dragging their feet on demutualizing the NSE even today. However, there is an unofficial market with certain brokers & the investor relations departments for widely held but unlisted companies like Old Mutual, Family Bank, CIC (& Co-operative Bank before it listed last year). It is more of an individual thing where you seek out either the company or your broker out of your own volition and hope to get a buyer or seller.

The list of companies on the other end of the scale is harder to delineate. For example, companies like NBK or UNGA have not paid dividends but have had decent capital gains while others like KAKZ, XPRS, SGL or HFCK have paid a few times but it's hard to predict when they will. Then there are companies (mostly agricultural) like MSC, SASN or KAPT that usually pay dividends but it can fluctuate a lot from 5/= one year to 0.50/= or nothing the next. The other category are companies like BBK, SCBK, TOTL or TPS that pay a regular dividend but that remains largely static over the years or grows very slowly (especially when compared to earnings and free cash flow)
