Not quite.
The building at Uhuru park [freedom corner] was to be KANU HQ + 5-star hotel. I don't think it was related to times towers.
Time Tower was initially planned as the new HQ of Central Bank. If you look at it closely you will notice design similarities.
Then 6 months to completion, CBK announced that they were not interested in a new HQ, they were happy with their current location.
So they invited the public to suggest names for the "building adjacent to CBK". There was even some prize money for it. They insisted that the suggested names should bear no relationship whatsoever to "Central Bank" or the letters "CBK".
They eventually picked on Times Tower and started looking for tenants - I think CBK owns the building.
KRA applied to take the whole building and moved from Community [now, the new Nairobi Law Courts] + NSSF buildings to their new home.
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.
