I think the majority of you have seen the series running on KTN regarding car theft.
This issue had been raised here at wazua but some people dismissed it.

Our local car market is so compromised think twice before you throw away your money.
What they may not tell you is:
1) how the engine and other parts are changed in the so called new cars.
2) how your odometer should be 200,000 yet its still at 60,000. Over 90% of the cars being sold locally have tampered odometers.
3) how the so called log book details don't tally with your car actual details Wrong engine no, wrong chassis no etc.

jamplu, it is only prudent that after raising such an alarm to inform us of what to do.

so if all these things are happening, what do we do about it? stop buying cars or please give us some tips.

@rasilio:
there are well established exporters in Japan whom you can get cars from even in japan don't buy from anyone on trade car view or whichever sites are there. its way cheaper importing direct from japan.

They can get you an inspection certificate on request to even certify the odometer has not been tampered with before you even bring in the car.

Always confirm the accuracy of your log book verify the numbers yourself if you can.

@jamplu-what's wrong with tradecarview?its just an umbrella of car exporters in japan and many are reputable e.g papera, you get to see a huge variety of quality cars at competitive cost.You even get to source the cars direct from auctions through some of the exporters which is cheaper than buying from ibc or autorec.You will also be issued with the inspection certificate and odometer verification is now mandatory by Jevic for kenya car exports

There is nothing wrong with tradecarview its just an Internet Advertising business. but here are unscrupulous people who use it to con others. They [tradecarview] issued several disclaimers last year that buyers should be careful of such people!!
My point is Kenyans should import their own cars or buy from very trusted dealers and make an effort to followup on all documentations including import documents si kununua gari kama ni mkate!
