I was at pains to explain to all and sundry before the end of last season why Rooney is not a world class striker and now we have all seen!! surely only 1 goal on Target 4 games C'mon!!! Its not easy attempting to classify players into world class or otherwise on the basis of their performance at the WC.

Fact: The Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo and Torres you saw at the WC are not the players we see every other day playing for their clubs. We all know what they are capable of. It will be very misleading to imagine that they are lesser players just because they didnt rise to the occasion as expected. Who would, for instance, have expected Messi not to have scored a single goal thus far?

Look at Brazil. A good number of players in their squad have previously flopped in EPL, yet while playing for the national team they seem to play so well. Does that make them better players? I was really shocked to see Kleberson still playing for Brazil. We all know how Robinho fared at Mancity when subjected to the challenges of the EPL.
